  1. Media Diary (May 2026)

Here’s some stuff I’ve experienced lately (and not necessarily only new releases). In addition, our free Stream Team community has a lot more daily action happening on the recommendations front too. 💪

The Dark Wizard (TV): This completely captivated me, still thinking about it

Widow’s Bay (TV): An absolute delight, love the whole vibe

OnlyFantasy (Podcast): Just started, but already great

Lorne (Movie): An absolutely fascinating look (at last!) behind the curtain

Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed (TV): I’ll watch Tatiana in pretty much anything, and this is solid

Clutch (Book): Enjoyed it overall, but definitely didn’t blow me away

Marty, Life is Short (Movie): What a career, and what a heartbreaking story about his wife

Evaporated: Gone With the Gods (Podcast): Definitely worth a listen if you (like me) loved Tokyo Vice

Rivals (TV): I wholeheartedly love this show, super glad it’s back

Spider-Noir (TV): Mr. Cage having the time of his life

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu (Movie): Was respectable, but didn’t really need to exist (Carmy as Jabba’s son though was a wild choice)

Mortal Kombat (2021 Movie): I went all-in this month on the Mortal Kombat cinematic universe in anticipation of the sequel, and this one (which I’d seen once before when HBO streamed everything during COVID) was fine, if generally forgettable

Mortal Kombat (1995 Movie): I hadn’t seen the original probably since the ’90s, and it’s appropriately goofy/entertaining

Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (Movie): I’d never seen this ’90s sequel, and it’s borderline unwatchable

Mortal Kombat II (Movie): Honestly shocked at how entertaining this was, easily the best of the franchise to date

This is a Gardening Show (TV): Just what I needed it to be, and 15-minute episodes (swoon)!

Chernobyl: Inside the Meltdown (TV): Obviously I’ll watch anything Chernobyl-related that you put in front of me, and this one didn’t disappoint

Eyes Wide Shut (Movie): A long-time favorite of mine, and you can (soon) see what the full gang thought about it over on Stream Team

My Killer Father: The Green Hollow Murders (TV): Absolutely chilling

Good Omens (TV Movie): I guess it was as good as you could expect given the circumstances

The Mystery of Richard Simmons (TV Movie): The world misses you, Richard!

The Nightmare Upstairs: What Happened to Ty and Bryn? (TV): What an insane story

Melania (Movie): I subjected myself to this since it was free on Prime, and it honestly might be the worst documentary I’ve ever seen

  6. Media Diary (April 2026)

Here’s some stuff I’ve experienced lately (and not necessarily only new releases). In addition, our free Stream Team community has a lot more daily action happening on the recommendations front too. 💪

Margo’s Got Money Troubles (TV): A stacked cast and tremendous energy

Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere (Movie): A “nice” journey into a house of horrors

Hulk Hogan: Real American (TV): What a flawed dude, but what a career

Rental Family (Movie): A small story told well

The Boys (TV): They’re definitely not going out in a subtle fashion, that’s for damn sure

Trust Me: The False Prophet (TV): This just got creepier and creepier

The Rise of the Red Hot Chili Peppers: Our Brother, Hillel (Movie): Loved this, and did not expect Flea to emerge as a McCartney-like motivating figure for the group

Hacks (TV): Feels super strong again this year

The Audacity (TV): Obviously over-the-top, but it’s been growing on me

Untold: Chess Mates (TV Movie): For all your “cheating at chess via connected anal beads” needs

The ‘Burbs (TV): As a superfan of the original movie, I was shocked at how much I enjoyed this

La Bamba (Movie): Had been far too long, and it still has the juice

For All Mankind (TV): Kinda can’t believe this is still going, but I like the near-reboot approach with the younger cast

Goodfellas (Movie): Had been a while since I’d watched this gem, check out our takes on Stream Team

Your Friends & Neighbors (TV): Can never go wrong by throwing Marsden into the mix

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (Uh, Movie): Visually gorgeous, but I’m still not entirely sure what happened (to say nothing of my rage over another movie sans Waluigi)

Here’s some stuff I’ve experienced lately (and not necessarily only new releases). In addition, our free Stream Team community has a lot more daily action happening on the recommendations front too. 💪

The Pitt (TV): It’s official, after fully catching up (at last), I’ve been diagnosed with a bad case of Pitt Fever

If I Had Legs I’d Kick You (Movie): LOVED this, really rooting for Rose to win Best Actress

Will There Ever Be Another You (Book): This was wild and almost impossible to follow, but it reminded me (for better or worse) a lot of how my own mind works, so I was kind of into it

General Magic (Movie): These people basically invented the world we now inhabit

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (TV): Love the smaller scope and general tone

After The Hunt (Movie): Was super into this, and Julia remains incredible

The Beauty (TV): This show is batshit, but I’m fully on the train

Cover-Up (Movie): This guy just can’t get enough of cover-ups, what a legend

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy (TV): I never knew I needed “Space Hogwarts” in my life, but I’m a fan, to say nothing of my love for Holly Hunter’s inability to sit normally

Tom Petty: Somewhere You Feel Free (Movie): I’ve always been a huge fan, but I’ve been on a real Wildflowers binge lately, so this was amazing to watch

Zardoz (Movie): I’d never seen it (aside from pics of the outfit), and it was really something

Filmworker (Movie): Talk about getting “called” to another path, what a journey for this guy

Smiles and Kisses You (Movie): Shockingly awkward, sweet and fascinating (all in equal parts)

Who Done It: The Clue Documentary (Movie): Far more low-budget than I expected, but still a great look at this eternal classic

Becoming Led Zeppelin (Movie): What I would’ve given to see them live back in their prime

Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story (Movie): Just staggering that this movie full-on created the concept of a blockbuster

Riefenstahl (Movie): An intriguing look at a wildly problematic figure

The Stringer: The Man Who Took the Photo (Movie): Fascinating to see the controversy behind one of the world’s most recognizable photos

Adventures in Babysitting (Movie): One of my all-time favs, and it was great to discuss it with the crew

Leprechaun (Movie): It’d been a while, and it obviously still has the juice

Tron: Ares (Movie): Had some fun moments, but overall pretty forgettable

  13. Media Diary (January 2026)

  14. Media Diary (December 2025)

Here’s some stuff I’ve experienced lately (and not necessarily only new releases). In addition, our free Stream Team community has a lot more daily action happening on the recommendations front too. 💪

Marty Supreme (Movie): I’ll be honest, Timothée was kind of astounding

Wake Up Dead Man (Movie): Really enjoyed this, despite the darker tone from its predecessors

Fallout (TV): Glad it’s back, I missed this weird world

The Hounding (Book): Generally enjoyed the ominous atmosphere, though this really should’ve been called “DogChix”

Galaxy Brain (Podcast): Just started digging through, but I’m always a fan of the dystopia beat

Happy and You Know It (Movie): These people are all the absolute coolest

Downey Wrote That (Movie): This guy was/is absolute magic

The Smashing Machine (Movie): The Rock crushed this, and I’m bummed it tanked at the box office

Inside the Cult of the Jesus Army (TV): Obv catnip for me

Spinal Tap II: The End Continues (Movie): Very fun, though I desperately wish this hadn’t been his last film 😢

Frankenstein (Movie): Visually gorgeous, and loved the performances

Avatar: Fire and Ash (Movie): I had fun, but it definitely felt like an extension of the second film more than its own new chapter

Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere (Movie): The main performances were great, but the plot/drama felt a bit lacking, despite the incredible songs

It’s Florida, Man (TV): So dumb, yet I keep coming back

Megadoc (Movie): Fascinating to watch, but I’d pay extra for a sequel covering the release and reviews

Anaconda (1997 Movie): I’d shockingly never seen this treasure, thankfully that’s now been rectified

Anaconda (2025 Movie): Watched the above to prep for this double feature, and found this new one to be a delight

Gremlins (Movie): Another Stream Team banger in the books

Breakdown: 1975 (Movie): Hell of a year!

Counting Crows: Have You Seen Me Lately? (Movie): Enjoyed this a lot, since I’m always a sucker for “semi-volatile frontman” stories

Train Dreams (Movie): Sad and beautiful vibes

Batman Returns (Movie): Hadn’t seen in a long time, it’s just jammed with iconic moments

    Pluribus (TV): Unsurprisingly astounding

Pluribus: The Official Podcast (Uh, Podcast): The companion podcast is also loose, fun and fascinating

Bugonia (Movie): Just the insanity I needed from Yorgos

Death by Lightning (TV): So good, and I would love to expand the American history cinematic universe tbh

The Naked Gun (Movie): Laughed a lot more than I expected

Decoder (Podcast): I’d dabbled here and there, but it’s now in my regular rotaysh

The Shuffle (Movie): This song was an absolute pillar of my childhood, and it was hilarious to see how they jammed Payton and McMahon in after the fact

The American Revolution (TV): Still plowing through this, but they really aren’t kidding about history rhyming

Wicked: For Good (Movie): Obviously a trickier movie given the nature of the show’s second half, but I enjoyed it overall

Aileen: Queen of the Serial Killers (Movie): I wasn’t super familiar with her story, and wow was it far more nuanced than I expected

Monster (Movie): I don’t think I’d ever actually seen this, and Charlize was remarkable

I Love LA (TV): Everyone is completely insufferable, but I kinda love it

Ballad of a Small Player (Movie): More vibes than anything else, but worth a watch

Fire and Water: Making the Avatar Films (TV): Cameron is absolutely insane in the best possible way

A House of Dynamite (Movie): Heard pretty polarized reactions to this, think I land somewhere in the middle

Palm Royale (TV): Enjoyed the first season, we’ll see how this one holds up

Down Cemetery Road (TV): Just started, but definitely along for the ride

The Chair Company (TV): It would be difficult for me to love this more

One Battle After Another (Movie): Fantastic and epic, but bummed at how it performed at the box office

Carnality (Book): Enjoyed its wild little world

Version History (Podcast): Targeted square at me (an old nerd)

Mr. Scorsese (TV): What a staggering career

John Candy: I Like Me (Movie): I got an early look at this a while back, and now that it’s out, glad that confirm that Candy does indeed seem to have been a pretty great guy

Monster: The Ed Gein Story (TV): I was riveted the whole time, despite it taking some wild artistic liberties

Psycho: The Lost Tapes of Ed Gein (TV): Amazing that this audio exists

Weapons (Movie): Loved the unhinged vibe

It: Welcome to Derry (TV): WHAT a cold open to a series 😬

Troll 2 (Movie): It’d had been a little bit since I’d been back to the fountain of knowledge, and it was great to bring in some new blood

Best Worst Movie (Movie): Obviously this was then the standard chaser (it’d been a long time since my last watch)

Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy (TV): As always, I’ll watch any and all Gacy material

My Father, the BTK Killer (Movie): Talk about an impossible situation to process

The Monster of Florence (TV): Just started this, but it’s gorgeous and compelling

Murdaugh: Death in the Family (TV): I did some light Murdaugh-ing a while back, feels good to return

Into the Void (TV): Not sure that “enjoyed” is the right word, but I was intrigued by every episode

Nightmares of Nature (TV): Generally dumb, but sometimes that’s what you need (and great footage!)

Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars (TV): It’s like real-life Carmy!

Task (TV): Love both of the leads and the overall tone

The Shrouds (Movie): What a creepy concept

Three Women (Book): Really enjoyed this, it read like fiction

The Paper (TV): I thought this was a great first season, and look forward to seeing where it goes

Memory: The Origins of Alien (Movie): A fantastic look behind the film’s many influences

Slow Horses (TV): I hope they keep making this until the end of time

Highest 2 Lowest (Movie): Always a Spike fan

The Lowdown (TV): Digging the vibe so far

Sid and Nancy (Movie): I’d somehow never seen this, and it was fantastic

Sad Vacation (Movie): Obviously I then had to watch the documentary

aka Charlie Sheen (TV): What a life journey (and a reminder that it’s been too long since I’ve watched Men at Work)

Saint Maud (Movie): Rewatched it for Stream Team, check out our takes!

Ruby & Jodi: A Cult of Sin and Influence (TV): I’d already seen something else about them before, and was still shocked

Sunday Best (Movie): I had no idea how hard Ed Sullivan advocated for minority artists

English Teacher (TV): Still one of the funniest comedies right now

Friendship (Movie): Exactly what I needed it to be (given the leads)

Gen V (TV): Already starting the new season strong, but if I’m honest I often confuse it in my mind with Wednesday (given the similar setup)

Seeking Mavis Beacon (Movie): A bit of a letdown, but a good concept

The Pitt (TV): Late to the party, but a big fan

The Woman in the Yard (Movie): Some cool imagery, but overall kind of a mess

My Husband, the Cyborg (Movie): An interesting look at the idea of giving yourself another physical sense

Here’s some stuff I’ve experienced lately (and not necessarily only new releases). In addition, our free Stream Team community has a lot more daily action happening on the recommendations front too. 💪

Alien: Earth (TV): This show has no right to be this great

Eddington (Movie): VERY good, and it’d be tough to choose between this or Midsommar as my top Aster movie

Stoner (Podcast): Interesting “first time with weed” origin stories

Katrina: Come Hell and High Water (TV): Still in the middle of this, but it’s powerful and depressing

The Fantastic Four: First Steps (Movie): Light and fun, loved the cast and overall production design

Billy Joel: And So It Goes (TV): An astounding career, and a great (though long) documentary

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Movie): We went to see the 35th anniversary (!) theatrical re-release, and man does this still hold up!

The Hunting Wives (TV): Can’t believe I’m saying it out loud, but I very much enjoyed this

Deadly Lessons (Movie): This really needs to be experienced without context, then immediately chased by the Flop House episode (hat tip to to the legendary Jessica G for the recommendaysh)

The Yogurt Shop Murders (TV): Super compelling, but ultimately frustrating that we still don’t have closure

Silence (Movie): I’d never seen, but we watched after learning more about this period of Japanese history on our trip, and the movie is legitimately gripping

Ted Bundy: Dialogue with the Devil (TV): I had no idea he’d “consulted” on the Green River Killer case, so I found it super interesting to explore the stories of both murderers

Happy Gilmore 2 (Movie): Dumb and fun, exactly what I wanted from it

The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox (TV): I never knew all the details of the case, so I’ve been fully along for this ride

Network (Movie): Big fans on our end, check out the discussion

Peacemaker (TV): Glad it’s back, and glad it’s still as over-the-top as ever (though I think the new opening titles song isn’t quite as epic as the one from season one)

Cheech & Chong’s Last Movie (Movie): Had no idea that Chong was the mastermind playing 4D chess with their early brand and career

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (TV): This show keeps getting goofier and goofier, and I’m here for it

War of the Worlds (Movie): My wife felt generally sad for humanity that this ended up getting made, which is a fair review

Wednesday (TV): Still fun, Jenna is still amazing

Titans: The Rise of Hollywood (TV): The reenactments and overall tone make this super cheesy, but the history itself is fascinating

Black Rain (Movie): Given all the elements, I wanted this to be so much better than it was

Shiny Happy People (TV): Digging the “new story per season” approach, as I hadn’t previously heard about Teen Mania Ministries

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (TV): Their ability to keep making great episodes at this point is almost supernatural

Super High Me (Movie): Mildly entertaining, but not sure I’d rush to watch it

Conversations with a Killer: The Son of Sam Tapes (TV): I’ll pretty much watch anything about Son of Sam, so keep ’em coming

Upload (TV): This really should’ve ended a while back, but generally enjoying the final batch of episodes

Note: It’s a much shorter list this month due to a little trip. 🇯🇵

Foundation (TV): This show is so sprawling and insane, but I can’t get enough

Superman (Movie): Huge fan, and we got to see it on the trip in English with Japanese subtitles

The Name of This Band is R.E.M. (Book): The fascinating story of one of my all-time favorite bands

Flesh and Code (Podcast): An insane story for an insane world

Squid Game (TV): Thought they brought it in for a “nice” landing

Lost in Translation (Movie): Mandatory viewing while we were in Tokyo (think I’d only seen it close to the original release)

The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift (Movie): Speaking of requirements, watching this while in the city was a real bucket list moment for me

Shy Girl (Book): Still not sure that my jaw is fully off the ground from some of these scenes

Liberty Lost (Podcast): Compelling and enraging

Rhys Darby in Japan (TV): Watched this before we left, and it was (no surprise) a complete delight

But I’m a Cheerleader (Movie): I’d never seen it, and it was exactly what I needed it to be

Autocracy in America (Podcast): We’re BACK, baby (very reluctantly)

Dirty Dancing (Movie): Had been a while, and it still REALLY holds up (with the soundtrack of course being the stuff of legend)

Snow White (Movie): Rachel Zegler was pretty good, but man this whole thing really didn’t need to exist

Her (Movie): Hadn’t watched it in years, and it’s staggering how many of Samantha’s abilities are now just part of our daily lives

Dept. Q (TV): Super surprised by how much I enjoyed this, kind of an X-Files meets Silence of The Lambs vibe

The Phoenician Scheme (Movie): Wes is gonna Wes, but I thought this was one of his better recent entries

The Reckonings (Book): A great (and sobering) set of essays

The Mortician (TV): So good, and what a wild story

F1 (Movie): I’m so not a racing guy (though my wife has recently become a big fan), but this was fun, and pretty much exactly what I needed it to be

Pee-wee as Himself (TV): What a career, and what a bummer that he’s gone

Ballerina (Movie): Solid, and I’d definitely watch more of action star Ana

Smoke (TV): This just started, but already very promising

Richard Ramirez: The Night Stalker Tapes (TV): Granted they were MUCH different crimes, but some strong Luigi parallels here with the good-looking killer and all of the adoring fans

A Woman Under The Influence (Movie): Fantastic, and this is just the start of my (shamefully delayed) Cassavetes journey

An Update on Our Family (TV): I’d heard the story, but those horrors aside, their whole ghastly influencer vibe is kinda fascinating

Music by John Williams (Movie): An absolutely astounding career

The Curious Case of Natalia Grace (TV): Seems like a decent outcome given everything she went through

The Curious Case of… (TV): Also digging this anthology spinoff

Bob Dylan: Don’t Look Back (Movie): Think I’d seen this ages ago, and it reaffirmed that I most likely would have punched young Bob in the dick (but I’m still a lifelong fan!)

Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action (TV): Obviously I grew up on this, but it was still wild to watch

Don’t Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever (Movie): Hard pass, bro, I’ll just go with death

Mayfair Witches (TV): This show is so mediocre, and yet I persist

I Am Trying to Break Your Heart (Movie): I’d also seen this back in the day, but this time around it was fascinating to witness the conflicting communication styles

Girls Gone Wild: The Untold Story (TV): Shocker, this guy was/is a real piece of shit

Operation Unite (Movie): Ol’ DJP is back in the saddle!

Autocracy in America (Podcast): Essential listening

Post-Traumatic (Book): Enjoyed, but I wanted more psych ward action!

Brazil (Movie): Can’t believe I’d never seen, you can listen to our hot takes on the podcast

Here’s some stuff I’ve experienced lately (and not necessarily only new releases). In addition, our free Stream Team community has a lot more daily action happening on the recommendations front too. 💪

One Hundred Years of Solitude (TV): Legitimately breathtaking, cannot wait for the second batch of episodes

Anora (Movie): Lived up to the hype, I love all of his stuff

Stream Team (Podcast): Shameless plug, with more to come in 2025!

Squid Game (TV): Somehow went even darker this season, and I was fully along for the journey

A Complete Unknown (Movie): LOVED it, and legit forgot he wasn’t actually Bob for long stretches

    Creature Commandos (TV): Delightfully unhinged

Nosferatu (Movie): Quite good, but in preparation for it I went on a bit of a Nosferatu/Dracula journey…

Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror (Movie): …in which I discovered that the “original” is my favorite…

Nosferatu the Vampyre (Movie): …the Werner Herzog version isn’t bad…

Shadow of The Vampire (Movie): …this (which I’d seen with my wife when it first came out eons ago) is fully off the rails…

Bram Stoker’s Dracula (Movie): …and this one (which I hadn’t seen in decades either) should’ve resulted in Keanu serving time for that accent

Liars (Book): Enjoyed it a little more after a recent book club discussion, but overall I’d just give it a shrug

Skeleton Crew (TV): Loving the Goonies energy

Jesus Christ Superstar (Movie): Another one I hadn’t seen in ages, check the podcast for our group takes

Superstars: The Documentary (Movie): I then obviously had to watch the documentary, which looked to have had a budget of (generously) fifty bucks

Nöthin’ But A Good Time: The Uncensored Story of ’80S Hair Metal (TV): I could watch ’80s rock excess documentaries every day and never get sick of them

Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story (Movie): A sad and touching story

Glitter and Greed: The Lisa Frank Story (TV): I love deep dives into the dark underbellies of beloved brands, and this one definitely delivered

Orbital (Book): Some beautiful parts, but overall it didn’t do that much for me

Yacht Rock: A Dockumentary (Movie): Loved this, and I always adore the Steely Dan dudes being complete maniacs in the studio

Elton John: Never Too Late (Movie): I already knew most of the story, but I’ll take any chance I can get to marvel at his career

Vinyl Nation (Movie): As someone with a recently-acquired record collecting habit, this spoke to me

Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey (TV): I was loosely familiar with the case growing up, but found myself riveted at just how insane the whole thing was

Blink Twice (Movie): A bit much, but I definitely enjoyed myself

No Good Deed (TV): Still early on with this, but it has my attention

Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy (Movie): I’m starting to think that capitalism might not be that great, guys

Doctor Who: Joy to The World (TV): Felt just average, but the hotel lady’s performance took it up a notch (I wish she’d become a companion!)

Red One (Movie): The less said about this, the better, though you have to respect J.K. Simmons clearly only agreeing to do it for the scene in which he gets to lift weights/flex his unnecessary guns as Santa
