Autumn Meadowhawk Dragonfly (Sympetrum vicinum) visiting my garden Aug 2025, Winnebago Co., WI. Dragonflies and other beneficial insects are always welcome in my yard, and I especially appreciate it when they pose for a photo and eat some garden pests.

Another dragonfly - one of the red Meadowhawks from the Upper Midwest. I’m leaning toward #Sympetrum obtrusum.

Visibly injured at the back of the head, the dragonfly expired as I carried it home. A striking fellow, I think a Variegated Meadowhawk (Sympetrum corruptum). Sorry he did not make it, but it was a great opportunity to look closely at this beautiful insect and photograph him (assuming male because of reddish coloration).
