  17. Helicobacter pylori causes gastric #ulcer leading to #cancer. (800000 deaths/year). Treatment is #antibiotics and a bismuth compound. Pepto-Bismol which treats upset stomach also contains bismuth.

    Here, the team show H. pylori blebs out vesicles with bismuth to stay alive in the stomach. Quite an elegant study on defense mechanisms in #bacteria (h/t TWiM)
