  1. Maturin makes rust in python accessible to a degree where it's not even a challenge anymore. Which is good, I suppose; but still :/

    The project I had planned to deliver a PoC over the weekend was done in a 15 minute train ride this morning.

  6. Gah. TIL that compiling #Rust/ #Maturin for a Linux distro with an older glib is a royal PITA. Fedora 43 laptop building, AWS Linux EC2 running.

    Half tempted to just make the first steps of this EC2 experiment when I trigger to install rust and Maturin, and build it there.

  11. Bad news: I accidentally broke creating sdists with maturin
    Good news: It wasn't entirely my fault and I figured out a fix

    It was partially caused by a bug in the CPython `tarfile` module!

  16. I fell down a rabbit hole of build backends for Python packages and wanted to experiment with #maturin. Two weeks later, and I finally have a #Rustlang+#Python project for zen-gardenning (and I'm soooo far behind on my github backlog 🙈).

    Anyway, I'm pretty happy about it, so in case anyone would like to try it out, here’s what I believe is now the fastest and most portable implementation of Line Integral Convolution on PyPI: introducing `rLIC`

  26. Is it just me or are #Maturin test failures just creepy?

    (yes, of course #PyO3 is now a major blocker for #PyPy 3.11, and will require tons of work because of all the dependency pinning)

  31. My recent work on #CBOR diagnostic tools has culminated in the release v0.0.7 of the cbor-edn #RustLang crate, and the cbor-diag v1.1.0 #Python package (which is powered by the former, #maturin and #PyO3).
    It is now easy to receive CBOR data structure with internal tags, and have them display like this:
    {1: IP'2001:db8::1', 3: DT'2025-01-14T13:27:49Z'}
