  1. Something I thought at #MathsConf39:

I know music teachers who're in choirs; English teachers who read (voraciously) at home; PE teachers in football teams; & history teachers who often visit museums.

But most maths teachers I know don't go anywhere near the subject when they're not working.

  4. Another theme that popped up a few times at #MathsConf39: reclaiming maths as something to enjoy as a hobby, rather than just a subject that we only engage with as part of our jobs.

If you're someone who'd like to explore that, I wholly recommend looking up your local MathsJam: MathsJam.com

  8. During our #MathsConf39 session, Jason and I revealed our new project: The History and Maths in Education Network ( historyand.mathsy.space ) which aims to facilitate discussion and sharing of resources & ideas amongst folks interested in using history themes to enrich maths education.

The main feature so far is an email-based discussion list which we hope people will join and make use of.

All with an interest in exploring the history of maths (and the maths of history) are welcome & encouraged to sign up (for free) using the link on the website.

You do not have to be an expert in both (or either): we hope that the network will help to connect people with complementary interests and skillsets.

  10. Had a great day at #MathsConf39! The sessions were great (so pleased as the turnout for ours!), but as always the most useful bits were the conversations with inspiring and interested folk (& catching up with old friends!)

  11. I have arrived in London for tomorrow's #MathsConf39! While my session isn't a sales pitch for my book, I *may* have some copies stowed away in my bag (and a Sharpie) in case anyone's interested...

  15. If anyone's considering signing up to #MathsConf39 (London, 11th October), you might like to further consider choosing the "History of Mathematics themes in #Maths Lessons: Why and How?"

There are some great reasons why you might entertain that consideration in the listing, but I'm also playing the "it's the day after my birthday and I'm giving up my weekend for this so please come and celebrate with me" card so there's that too.

If you're not a maths teacher and/or you can't get to London on that date, I'd consider it a worthy birthday gift if you'd help spread the word by giving this a boost 😁

  17. Yes, it's true: I'm giving up my birthday weekend to play with maths and history (and Jason) at #MathsConf39. It'd mean a lot if you'd help me celebrate by coming along to our workshop! #MathsToday

  18. I've had lots of little conversations about #MathsInMuseums over the last 3 days at #GEMConference2025.

Next up is #MathsConf39 in October, where I'll be delivering a workshop on enriching maths lessons with history content.

  21. Ok, #MathsConf -ers, it's ON.

I + my research partner Jason, will be delivering a workshop at #MathsConf39 in London on 11th October.

We'll be looking at how (& why) to embed history-of-maths (& maths-of-history) themes in your teaching.

  24. As I got a small positive response from my threat to submit a proposal for a workshop at #MathsConf39, I have submitted a proposal to deliver a workshop at MathsConf39. You'd better all sign up for it, now (after badgering the organisers to accept it, of course).
