@AJS One thing that helped me was grabbing 5 values and doing digital value studies side by side from film stills using just those values. The cinematographer does all the lighting decisions for you, that's helpful starting out.

As part of my to-do list, I decided I'd watch an Inkscape tutorial and then try to vector one of my MOM!cats.
