    🛠️ Tool
    ===================

    Kudu is a free, open-source system cleaner and security scanner by AdventDevInc, targeting Windows, macOS, and Linux. The project positions itself as a transparent alternative to closed-source cleaners like CCleaner, which have had security incidents and drifted toward upsells.

    Key Features

    The tool spans three functional areas:

    1. Cleaning & Optimization — System cleaner (temp files, logs, caches, crash dumps), browser cleaner across major browsers, app cleaner for leftover data, gaming cleaner for launcher and shader caches, registry cleaner for broken/orphaned entries, startup manager with boot impact analysis, network cleanup (DNS, Wi-Fi profiles, ARP cache), disk analyzer with interactive treemap, debloater for Windows bloatware, driver manager for stale drivers, program uninstaller with leftover cleanup, service manager, and software updater supporting winget, Chocolatey, Scoop, and npm.

    2. Security & Privacy — Malware scanner using signature matching and heuristic analysis with Windows Defender integration, privacy shield controlling 30+ Windows privacy settings (telemetry, ad ID, Cortana, tracking), and secure delete that overwrites files with random data before deletion.

    3. Monitoring & Tools — Performance monitor with real-time CPU, memory, disk, network stats, per-core breakdown, and S.M.A.R.T. data, system restore point creation before cleaning, cleaning history tracking, scheduled scans (daily/weekly/monthly), one-click clean, and CLI mode for scripting.

    Technical Notes

    The CLI mode makes Kudu suitable for automated maintenance scripts and deployment scenarios without GUI access. The software updater covering multiple package managers (winget, Chocolatey, Scoop, npm) addresses fragmentation in Windows software installation.

    Platform packages: .exe for Windows, .dmg for macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon), .AppImage or .deb for Linux.

    Considerations

    Registry cleaning carries inherent risk regardless of the tool. The heuristic analysis engine for malware detection is not documented in detail. The "no telemetry" claim is verifiable since source code is public. Note: haven't tested personally.

  2. Wow – pure SnakeOil, those so-called anti-virus or anti-malware scanners! "we are unable to proceed with the whitelisting request unless the application is available on the Google Play Store"?!? WTF?!? 🤯

    And yes, that's part of a real response a dev got.

    So they claim: your app is malware, as long as it is not at Google Play. I'd say we've heard it the other way around, too…
