All the machine work is done on the dress now too. I still need to tack down the edges of the sequins and add more of them to the top as well as hem it, but all of that can be done at the hotel. It’s now time to stop crafting and start cleaning and packing.
At long last it’s #CoCo26 departure day!

It’s my last full day at home, tomorrow is packing and cleaning up my crafting disaster sites before an evening flight to LA.
The base dress is sewn, the lining is half done. It’s a little too big, but that’s what I get for skipping the muslin. At this point I’ll have something I can wear (unless something goes horribly wrong today), but it’s not nearly as sequined as I want.
Here’s hoping for a productive final crafting day.

Omg ponies can someone please tell me why it took me this long to spring for an invisible zipper foot?! This thing makes it so much easier it’s crazy.
I might just finish this dress in time…
2.5 days until my flight.

The bolero is almost done. Pretty funny looking inside out before I seamed the lining. I still need to attach the lining at the armholes and seam the disk joins. That’s all hand sewing so I’m stopping for now. I’ll finish those later.
I’ve revisited my plan for the dress and will only add the sequin overlay to the front and back for simplicity; it also has side panels. Also skipping the muslin, yes I’m insane. Really hoping I finish in time.
5 days left.

All the chiffon circles have been hemmed. 36 left to cut open, 41 left to join. Then it’s attaching 10 to each armhole and 26 around the border/neckline. Whee!
Did I mention I still haven’t cut out the dress?

16 more circles are hemmed*, 30 to go, then assembly on the bolero.
Today I needed a break from sewing so I printed and started assembling the pattern for the dress that’s going with the bolero. 2 of the 4 large pieces have been cut and pasted together plus all the small ones. Hope to finish the last 2 big pieces tomorrow so I can make the muslin on Monday.
* I know there’s a rolled hem foot for my machine. Tried it, hated it, so I’m working the rolled hems on the circles by hand.

68 chiffon circles have been cut out and stay stitched. 22 are completely done and assembled into the bolero. 46 more need to be hemmed and sewn together for the outer layer of ruffles along the neck/body and sleeves.
Of course I ran out of black chiffon, so rather than order more I’m making the creative decision to make the final layers in magenta. This is meant to be over the top after all.

If I had known this bolero would involve cutting and blind hemming 68 11” black organza circles I would have kept looking for a different pattern. 😭

The theme for Costume College this year is ‘Extra Deluxe: More is More’. Which is very me and has me wildly excited, but I’ve been stumped for an idea for my gala costume. The gala theme is ‘Super-Sized Sleeve Soiree’, inspired by the 1830s but open to all interpretations. I thought about another regency dress, I love the pattern I have, but I’ve done that.
Then yesterday I stumbled on some amazing sequined fabric and rembered a class I took last year. Now a little idea is brewing!

I just finished the bodice for my Scarlet Overkill dress. I feel so cheesy having picked her for villain night, but my kids loved all those movies so I have a soft spot for them. Plus her dress is cute enough I might wear it again as just a dress for a night out.

I’ve decided on my Friday night costume for CoCo, and it’s also going to require me to make a dress, which brings my count up to 2. I’m saving myself a little grief with this one because I bought a pattern, though it will need mods. I also haven’t even decided what to do for the big gala on Saturday night, though it likely will also involve me making something. Starting to think I might be a little crazy.

Paper model built, seems like the right size, so I cut the foam for the first spaulder. Now to glue it together and see how it looks. #MakingCoCo #CoCo23

It begins! I drafted the pattern for my spaulders. Next steps - import the shape to Cricut, order foam and Worbla, figure out how to make the birds. Still a little daunted by this build, but optimistic. #MakingCoCo #CoCo23
