The Acutísimos for 1886 represent some of the finest defense we've seen played not just this season, but in the history of the Liga Nacional.
In particular, José Garza (hi, @Louisa) and René Joglar (hi, @mattamatic) were lockdown artists for their zones. When their bats develop fully, they're going to scare the bejesus out of their divisions.

You know what happened months (of game time) ago and we haven't talked about yet?
The :lnp: gave out its awards for the 1886 season! Let's get into it, starting with the one everyone wants to see: Novato Nobilísimo.
We know @Louisa's going to be pretty mad about one of these choices.

That luck was going too well: Romero throws the ball away, which scores Moreno, but it's unearned.
Romero also gets Santillán out on an FC, but it's Guerrero who ends it by grounding a perfect double play ball.

Amazingly, after two runners get on, Guerrero makes a diving stop and perfect throw to nail Bobadilla.
Gaucho scores Tomé from 3rd, thanks to another Vidal error; Bobadilla throws it away to score Gaucho next.

Vidal's throwing error puts Santillán, who walks, on 3rd, and his passed ball scores the same guy.

La Púa flies López out to CF on his first pitch, and Romero guns down Bobadilla at 2nd. Moreno gets thrown out across the hallway, 5-3.
Trevizo and Tomé hit; the former is thrown out trying to advance to 3rd, the latter at home.

With one of the biggest leads he's had all season, Ace gives up four hard-hit flyballs. One's a 2B. The other three are flyouts.

If not for an error, the Brujos wouldn't have managed anything against Lozano.
Acevedo pops Domínguez out, pinch-grounds Hormisdas Torres out 4-3, and Joglar 6-3, all on two pitches apiece.

Santillán doesn't strike out to screw up . . . but that's because he grounds into a double play to end the inning.
Acevedo has a clean sheet in his half. Which, given his track record, is *extremely* worrisome.

With 2 outs and a runner in position due to a Cavazos error, Acevedo gets a flyout to CF to get out of it.

Acevedo coffin-corners a double into deep LF; Santana scores him, but is gunned down stealing, and Gaucho grounds out 4-3.
In his own half on the mound, Santillán puts a runner on via error, but then ends it at 2nd.

Bueno wipes out the 6-7-8 batters without any issue; two lazy fly balls from Santillán and Guerrero.
Yet another infield single puts Rodríguez on, and Colón bunts him to 2nd; Bueno fans again to end the scoring threat.

This time, Gaucho walks on full count with 2 outs, and scores on a passed ball. Cavazos strands Sibo at 2nd shortly thereafter.
Guerrerormachine in fine form: his second error moves Cárdenas to 2nd, and Avina scores him.

Bueno picks up a looking strikeout of Sibo González and a swinging one of Acevedo, but his fielders do him dirty in the meantime.
With a runner on 3rd, Acevedo fans Bueno right back to escape the threat.

Acevedo looks to be in control—until Omar Guerrerormachine strikes again, forcing him to throw five more pitches to get the third out.

Gaucho spears one into the 1st base dirt; Sibo reaches on error and (of course) is gunned down stealing; Cavazos is stranded by Santillán.

After loading the bases yet again, Ortiz's wild pitch starts the circus music. A Brujo scores on that pitch, on an error, and a sac fly.
