  8. "Publishers today still arrange to print and distribute copies, which they store in expensive warehouses around the world. They still liaise with booksellers, who most of the time (but not always) pay their invoices. They try to publicize their new releases, but more often than not the author (and their social media) is by far the best marketer of their work." #books #publishing #LiteraryAgents publishingperspectives.com/202

  35. With the news that Amazon/Audible is now offering an ai narrator conversion beta for books in KDP Select...but that the resulting audiobooks will be offered in an all-you-can-eat Audible Plus subscription model, means that author royalties will likely take another dive (just like musicians have experienced with streaming on Spotify). That's not even taking into account the effect on narrators. More in my blog.

  37. In good news for writers, there's a thriving independent publishing scene in Australia of small yet mighty publishers such as Affirm, Black Inc , Brio Books, Fremantle Press, Giramondo, Griffith Review, Hardie Grant, Puncher & Wattmann, Scribe and more. Nov 24-26 the Small Press Network (SPN), of which these publishers are members, is running the annual Independent Publishing Conference. There will be some truly useful presentations/statistics/forecasts/workshops across the 3 days and you can attend online or in person at The Wheeler Centre in Melbourne. On Day 3 I'll be running a workshop on publishing timelines ie: what authors need to do when to successfully bring a book to market. So many great sessions. Check it out. smallpressnetwork.com.au/event
