When there’s sufficient stimulus, sodium enters the cell, potassium (also positively charged) exits, then the cell membrane returns to baseline “resting potential”.
Sodium enters through a sodium channel, and what does lidocaine do? Block sodium channels! No sodium entry, no action potential, no pain signal.
