People living on the Toronto Islands have a sweet deal, with below typical housing costs. Houses were initially built to address housing shortages after WWII, then it was decided that the city wanted the land back and the fights ensued. Eventually, a 99-yr lease agreement was made and these folk have the best of city and small-town life.

Once breeding season is done and the birds have left their nests, you can walk past their abandoned colony to find this desolate-looking view.

First, it's foolish to walk over ice without its thickness being checked, even with weight being distributed with skis. Secondly, he scared away a snowy owl, before I could photograph it!!!! ;)
He did not crash through the ice, the ducks seemed to not be too bothered, perhaps appreciating the owl flying off.
