  1. Oh good. Even more centralisation. Just what the most overcentralised wee country (that's actually a medium sized country but thinks it looks cuter if it pretends to be small) urgently needs.

Not #ClimateAction; not #ScottishIndependence; not #LandReform; not #WealthTax; not #LocalDemocracy. Nope, none of that. Just mash all the health boards into just two, and everything will be sorted.

Remind me, why did we vote for these clowns?

  2. @DarkGalloway Also, registering a community right to buy on this land now -- even if there is no current intention to sell -- would greatly lower the investment value of the land, which might unsettle the investors and at least get them negotiating with the community.

  3. @greenyouthmovement Well, yes, of course.

    I manage #biodiverse meadows and woodland; I live off grid; I haven't flown since 2009 and don't have a car; I am a trustee of a #ClimateChange charity, for which I'm currently working on a #Biodiversity paper; I'm active in #LandReform.

  4. Scotland’s #communities have been…delivering…vision for how #land can be used for the better. Communities…across Scotland…take ownership of the land…developed innovative and sustainable community enterprises…transformed their local areas….supported…by the Scottish Parliament, including three #landreform acts…providing rights for communities to acquire…assets.

  5. @withaveeay Exactly. The pre-clearance Highlanders were not materially poor. The landscape had not yet been wrecked by sheep, nor, so short a period after the extinction of the wolves, by deer.

What they were was cash poor. They had a self-sufficient subsistence economy; they exported little, and therefore brought in little coin.

The Lairds wanted money; and so, the folk were cleared.

You don't necessarily evict children. They too have a right of lifetime tenure to some home somewhere, and the home in which they reside at the time of their parents' death is as good a candidate as any. They just must not have an automatic right to it.

If land is managed by a local community, that community has a generational interest in its good management.

  7. #Zimbabwe is trying to restructure about $11.7bn in external debt, including $7.7bn owed to multilateral and bilateral creditors. On May 20, the International Monetary Fund approved a staff-monitored programme to support reforms and debt restructuring. Resolving "disputes" linked to land reform has become central to that re-engagement process.

Few people talk about the solution to North America’s #HousingCrisis being the well-studied one of #LandReform

Those who own the land don’t want the people suffering under the current system to realize the problem is so fundamental

Fixing it has overthrown governments, but never been easy
