The original #KRONOS (introduced in 2011) is basically an off-the-shelf Mini-ITX PC running #Linux with realtime extensions and an audio, MIDI and display interface attached via USB. #KORG used various techniques to make sure, that only their OS can run on the device, including file system hashes and a cryptographic handshake disguised as CD-ROM driver.

    All this as been reverse engineered by a certain #kronoshacker who also found a way to root the device and install a custom kernel which in turn enabled him to replace the main board and install a more powerful CPU.

    And yes: KORG is clearly violating the #GPL here.
