On July 5, Tako Koning led a trip to Knudsen’s Farm near Huxley, AB, to view the K-Pg extinction layer! After a talk in town, we hiked to see the layer up close, then visited Dry Island Buffalo Jump Park for lunch, where the layer is also visible on the bluffs. A great start to the field trip season!

It was incredible to see it in person and realize that we were looking at evidence of one of the largest extinction events the planet has ever seen.

The same applies to some of the other examples on my list—e.g. the reason the Alvarez hypothesis gained widespread acceptance relatively quickly is that none of the other proposed mechanisms for the #KPg #extinction (formerly #KT) fit the rather odd data.
