On this #RevengeOfTheFifth, I'm getting a hankering to roll a new Imperial Agent in SWTOR because the class story was really excellent, and the new expansion is tempting me. Of course, I'd rather have a proper KotOR 3, but that seems to be unlikely at this point.

Los 90s fue una época complicada para los RPG occidentales. Ningún juego de rol de Europa o Estados Unidos podían competir contra Pokémon, Shin Megami Tensei, Tales of, Final Fantasy, #ChronoTrigger, #OfMana... Aún así, los europeos y americanos se las apañaron para seguir adelante, evolucionando el clásico CRPG, creando increíbles obras maestras. #BaldursGate y #Diablo son prueba de ello, siendo éste último el cual causaría una gran revolución en los juegos de rol para PC en occidente. Como mención honorífica, #Fallout, el cual se quedó a medio camino hasta que Bethesda le dio la vuelta a la tortilla.
Ahora bien... los 2000s sería algo histórico, algo que cambiaría la forma de pensar de los japoneses y los JRPG, y saben porqué ¿no?. #Bethesda es la respuesta a todas vuestras preguntas de la caída de los JRPG durante todo este tiempo.
Occidente no solo fue el lugar donde se creo D&D, el juego de rol de mesa más famoso de todos los tiempos y de los que beben todos, y absolutamente, todos los RPGs del mundo. Sino también contaban con 3 escritores de fantasía sin explotar en sus juegos: #Tolkien (#ElSeñordelosAnillos), #Lewis (#LasCrónicasdeNarnia) y #Howard (#ConanElBárbaro). Es así como #TheElderScrolls fue la respuesta. Siendo Vijay Lakshman director de TES: Arena, un juego de rol con total libertad de exploración en un mapa gigantesco y procedural con decenas de misiones y cientos de decisiones. Pero claro, esto era en los 90s, época donde Diablo triunfaba más que ningún otro juego de rol. ¿Qué es lo que no atraía de TES? Su cámara en primera persona y sus mecánicas tan poco intuitivas. Arrastrando estos problemas incluso en TESII: Daggerfall.
De todas formas, Todd Howard estaría en Bethesda en el 2002 para crear el juego de rol que ha influenciado a todos los que están ahora presentes. The Elder Scrolls III: #Morrowind. La forma de ver los juegos de rol de Todd Howard y la salida de TES en consolas por primera vez (en #Xbox), hizo que Morrowind fuera uno de los mayores éxitos de la época, evolucionando así este sistema en el increíble TESIV: #Oblivion y crear el juego de rol más exitoso de todos los tiempos hasta ahora TESV: #Skyrim.
Pero el mayor problema para los japoneses no era ésta empresa, sino la competitividad y la influencia que dejó al resto. Gracias a ellos, resurgieron bestias del RPG como #Bioware, empresa que dio muchísima guerra a Bethesda con #Neverwinter, #KOTOR, #MassEffect y #DragonAge.
Por otro lado, #Blizzard desvancaría a #FinalFantasy11 como el MMORPG más jugado del mundo gracias a #WorldofWarcraft.
Los WRPG se habían puesto por delante. Final Fantasy, Tales of y Dragon Quest, los 3 JRPGs más famosos de Japón, se habían desinflado. Solamente se mantenía Pokémon en el ámbito internacional y manteniendo el puesto del juego de rol más vendido de la historia. ¿Qué pasaría con los JRPG? Dejar de ser JRPG fue la respueta, adaptarse al mercado internacional.
