Como quiero experimentar un poquito de como era (y grabarme metraje para recordarlo), creo que voy a reinstalarme el Anthem antes de que cierren los servidores el día 12.

No llegó a ser el Destiny-killer que EA quería y dejó claro que a Bioware los juegos de servicio se le daban mal... pero joder si el moverte por el mapa no era satisfactorio como ello solo.

Tanto potencial desperdiciado y el tener que sumirse en la ironía de correr la misma suerte que el mundo que muestra: abandonado a su suerte por sus creadores, incompleto, imperfecto pero con esperanza de mejorar.

Jak analizują eksperci na łamach serwisu Ars Technica, ten ruch całkowicie odmieni jednego z największych wydawców gier na świecie. Dla graczy może to oznaczać zarówno koniec ulubionych marek, jak i szansę na nowe, odważne projekty.

Cięcia kosztów i strach o BioWare

Głównym problemem, na który wskazują analitycy, jest gigantyczne zadłużenie w wysokości około 20 miliardów dolarów, które obciąży nowe, sprywatyzowane EA. Konieczność spłaty długu może zmusić firmę do drastycznych cięć. Eksperci przewidują zwolnienia, zamykanie studiów i sprzedaż mniej dochodowych marek.

Najbardziej zagrożone mają być studia niepracujące nad grami-usługami, takimi jak BioWare (Mass Effect), Codemasters (F1) czy nawet Respawn (Star Wars Jedi). EA może stać się jeszcze bardziej zachowawcze, skupiając się wyłącznie na corocznych seriach sportowych i mikrotransakcjach.

Szansa na kreatywną wolność?

Z drugiej strony, analitycy widzą też potencjalne plusy. Uwolnienie się od presji Wall Street i konieczności raportowania zysków co kwartał może dać nowemu EA większą swobodę.

Według ekspertów, firma mogłaby pozwolić sobie na bardziej długoterminowe planowanie i odważniejsze, kreatywne projekty, które nie muszą przynosić natychmiastowego zysku. To szansa na powrót do bycia „firmą produktową”, a nie tylko maszyną do generowania regularnych przychodów.

Obawy o cenzurę

Wielką niewiadomą jest rola Funduszu Inwestycji Publicznych Arabii Saudyjskiej, który jest częścią konsorcjum. Analitycy zwracają uwagę na dwa potencjalne problemy. Pierwszy to możliwa cenzura i usuwanie treści niezgodnych z konserwatywną wizją świata saudyjskich władz – jako przykład podawane są wątki LGBTQIA w serii The Sims. Drugi to ryzyko wzmożonej kontroli ze strony rządu USA w kwestii prywatności danych graczy. Saudyjczycy, inwestując w EA, chcą zdobyć tzw. „miękką siłę” i wpływ na globalną kulturę.

Przyszłość Electronic Arts pod nowymi rządami jest więc niepewna. Firma może albo zamienić się w jeszcze bardziej bezduszną korporację nastawioną na zysk, albo paradoksalnie, odzyskać część kreatywnej wolności. Ostateczny kierunek zależeć będzie od priorytetów nowych właścicieli.

Partially onboard with #LegendaryDrops, nobody wanted #TheVeilguard.

The problem? RPGs live or die by its writing and this was the biggest issue. #DragonAgeTheVeilguard failed at its core and nothing could salvage it.

Very glad the game bombed. It left space for other, better games in the market.
