Seen so many interesting theories about what happened with Korra, pre-Seven Havens. Thought I'd share the one I'm leaning towards.
From the voiceover in the trailer, I get the impression the cataclysm didn't happen just before Pavi was born, but rather a very long time ago, potentially 10s or even 100s of years. So, not only did Korra actually live a long time (similar to Kyoshi), I'm thinking the cataclysm also didn't happen all at once. 1/2

My Korra rewatch is almost over, and I'm up to "Kuvira's Gambit". I've always loved the moment Korra comes up with a plan to kidnap Baatar Jr and, for the first time in the show, Tenzin agrees to it without protest. This was the moment we finally saw Korra become the leader she was born to be. Also, that stealth mission on the airship? 💙💙💙 One of the coolest scenes in the show.

Finished "Operation Beifong" in my Korra rewatch, and while the battle between the Beifongs and Kuvira tends to get all the attention here, one part of the episode (and LOK in general) that I think isn't talked about enough is the spirits and Korra's relationship to them. 1/3

Continuing with my Korra rewatch and I know "Remembrances" gets a lot of hate for being a clip episode, but honestly, for what it is, I think it's a pretty enjoyable episode. I love Varrick's nonsensical mover pitch, Mako getting smacked by Grandma Yin always makes me laugh, and the cozy Korrasami moment makes it all worth it.

Onto Book 4 of my Korra rewatch, and this is possibly my favorite scene in the entire show. The music, the lighting, the beautiful animation, Korra's internal battle, Toph's approval(!), I love everything about it. I always rewind it 2-3 times every time I get to it.

Make Korra Great Again: My Journey Through Ethnography, Deconstruction, and Redemption
Korra is an Arctic Indigenous female character set in a fantasy universe centered around an East Asian cultural sphere. The core principles behind this character, regardless of how adequately they were handled or how often they were neglected, are her Indigenous background, her internal conflict between traditionalism and modernity, and her role as a potential unifying figure among major East Asian-inspired world powers. Korra’s erratic and explosive personality is, in fact, her most distinct and authentic trait, the element that allows the character to truly stand out in this kind of setting. Korra does not require a “deconstruction” that removes her Season 1 foundation, the main season that slightly, just slightly, captured the strength of her core personality. Nor does she need to be reassembled into a subdued figure in order to accommodate the perceived burden of the Avatar role. She definitely does not need post-modern western socio-political agenda indoctrinated into her design. Alas, the execution of Korra’s character in the flagship follow-up to The Last Airbender is almost poetically tragic. There is something deeply ironic, and quietly, beautifully sad, in the way such a character, placed within such a rich and successful setting, effectively handed to the creators on a golden plate, ends up reaching such a low result. Perhaps this is part of why I find Korra so compelling to explore, hoping that one day things would change. "When we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change." -

Korra S02E14
I still think the whole losing a connection to Ravva was a stupid move, but it presented an opportunity to... clumsily address that maybe Korra was insecure and only felt like she was awesome because she was the Avatar? Would have been nice to have seen more evidence of that through the season. This "moment" just felt like it came out of nowhere and just kinda doesn't have any impact as a result.
Oh... and now we're doing spirit kaiju battling. I'm... Ok. Sure. It's all very epic and fighty and fun to watch... but it feels so unearned.
Like... Jinora's coming down and flashing light and waking up Ravva and... I don't understand how any of this makes sense.
How does an absolute spirit novice like Korra go full spirit kaiju and stand toe to toe with the fused dark avatar guy? What did Jinora do? How did she know to do it? Why is Korra still cut off from the other avatars?
Korra keeping the portals open... I like that move. I can't help but feel it shows how Korra's physicality affects how she interacts with the spirit world. She's not great at being all spiritual, but leaving a link between the physical and the spiritual that can physically be traveled to and through just feels like something that would make sense to her.
Breaking up with Mako... I like that move too.
Maybe the next season will give me answers, but I'm glad this one is over. It was miserable.
