Finished the main 'campaign' this morning. Super chill. Took me around 3-4 hours. There's some little additional difficulty settings that I tweaked that got me over the line (I got stuck, and as much as I was enjoying it, I didn't want to ruin it by becoming frustrated).
This game may feature in my end of year favourite five. Although with having played #Khazan, #DOOM, #ClairObscur and now #RiftRiff in the last 3 months, that top five is looking pretty stacked.
It's only July.
Second half of the year is going to have to bring it.

The thing about the #DungeonFighterOnline franchise is that there is no strong title or franchise thread.
To make a franchise, you have to make a very good game, but also a good narrative and world that resonates. Once you build it, then you make your spin offs.

Okay so I found a little time to play some more #Khazan today (I sent the kids outside for an hour).
For context, I switched to 'easy mode' the other day and this was my first session since making that switch.....I am a god. I've gone through two named bosses in a row and haven't died once.
So now I'm wondering if I need to go back to normal mode, because this feels a little *too* easy you know?
Got to question the balancing when the easy mode is too easy and the normal mode is too hard.
My perfect difficulty would be one where the bosses have the same health pool as their easy counterparts, whilst also offering the same level of damage output as their normal mode brethren.
I love the games combat. I enjoy learning it. Unfortunately the game strips away a lot of that joy by demanding near perfection (for 5+ minutes) in order to beat a boss. That frankly, feels a little unfair.
Let them kill me in two hits, let them curb-stomp me if I make a mistake....just maybe tone down the boss HP bar yeah?

Honestly. I think I'm hitting a wall with regards to #Khazan. I've barely played in over the last ten days and when I do I find myself getting more and more frustrated with what I'm seeing.
I'm still fighting Elamein. She's a complete arsehole, and worst of all she's just not a fun fight. From beginning to end it's pretty miserable.
There's no flow to the combat as she's very happy to back off, but if you get too far away she'll hit you with a bull-shit shield throw or her two-stage charge attack. If you get too close you'll basically power her shield up to do a ridiculous 10-combo attack that I think I'm supposed to dodge through, but ultimately just end up running away from.
And on top of that she's got a promised-consort styled AOE attack that almost blinds you.
Yeah. It's just not a good time you know?

No hockey to watch this evening, so I'm probably going to jump back into #Khazan, which I haven't played in a solid week.
I'm not sure if it's a me thing, or a game thing but it doesn't have that pull that so many other Souls games seem to have.
I *think* that's the level design. It's very linear at times and there's not that much to explore.

I'm interested in replaying #Sekiro at some point but I'm absolutely certain its going to be a walk in the park compared to #LiesOfP, #Wukong and #Khazan.
And I don't mean that with any disrespect, I adore that game...but I feel like we're in a sort of cold-war era arms race, but instead of it being 'who has the most nukes' it's a less terrifying 'who can make the hardest one of these'.
Sekiro's parry system and overall boss structure feels so much more....basic and dare I say it, approachable than both Lies and Khazan.

Pushing giant fucking doors open in this game is weak as shit. Coming off Dark Souls 3 to this and honestly, major let down.

Spent another hour or so with #Khazan this morning and I'm pleased to say that I'm really enjoying it.
Just unlocked access to the spear weapon, and it feels so much more appropriate for a game like this than the Great Sword did.
Made it to another boss before I had to turn if off and go collect my son. Blade Dagger I believe his name is. Naturally he tore me into a thousand teeny-tiny lil' pieces.

Hahahaha the bosses in #Khazan are absolutely savage. I've reached the one in the first mission after the demo and it has been kicking the shit out of me for more than an hour now.
Really well designed, and relentlessly brutal. The particle effects in the second phase make it a bit hard to read what it is doing, so timing the parries is hard, but I'm having a great time with it 😂
