Their server infrastructure or signing keys weren't compromised, but the CMS for their website was, so attackers were able to put malicious download links on their website. This also affected the Linux shell installer for the software. Flatpak, winget, snap and their main JAR package were unaffected.

I would be surprised if this was the case. The DAEMONTools compromise had very competent tradecraft. There was proper enumeration, targeting with different minimalistic payloads. I've seen some of the hands-on activity from mcrypto.chiper payload. It was mostly living-off-the-land. Low noise enumeration, then louder attempts at credential dumping. Skedaddled when they noticed EDR.

JDownloader so far seem like pack a bunch of Python scripts, drop TOR and YOLO.

Is there anything better than "Free Download Manager" these days (kinda dislike their GUI since they changed it from the v3.9.7 one)
to get downloads from the browser automatically pushed into another tool that can do resumption and all (esp. when downloading multiple >20gb files/images).

On the CLI aria2 + yt-dlp kinda works, but I haven't seen a browser plugin that would automatically intercept and forward downloads (esp. the javascript triggered ones).

I have been using #jdownloader for years. Now I feel like my customer trust has been violated while installing it on a new computer: the installer process asks you several times if you want to install additional software that comes bundled with the installer. This is done several times before you get to the actual JDownloader screen.
I thought I was through the bullshit only to realize it installed Opera, Avast, AVG and whatever other malware on my laptop :/
Now I gotta fix this mess :angrymsn:
