    from #JAMA
    December 19, 2025

#Flu season comes around every year, but a new strain is leading many #GlobalHealth experts to worry that this round may be particularly severe. The strain—a version of the #influenza A(#H3N2) #virus—first appeared in surveillance reports in June, 4 months after the 2025-2026 #InfluenzaVaccine formulation had already been determined, and has been associated with earlier waves of influenza outbreaks in #Canada, #Japan, and the #UK.

  10. Now, a new study of nearly 34,000 veterans, finds this over-the-counter supplement is linked to a reduction in non-melanoma skin cancers among people who've already had skin cancer. The research was published in JAMA Dermatology.

The biggest reduction was seen among people who began taking the supplement after being diagnosed with their first skin cancer. Researchers found those who took 500 mg of nicotinamide, also known as niacinamide, twice daily, for at least one month, had a 54% reduced risk of developing another skin cancer, compared to patients who did not take the supplement. #jama #b3

  11. It reminds me of .

“We are probably going to stop publishing in the Lancet, the New England Journal of Medicine (), and those other journals because they are all corrupt."

Kennedy said agencies within the will create their own “in-house” journals. “They are going to become the preeminent journals, because if you get funding it is anointing you as a good, legitimate scientist,” he said.

    jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/

"Some authors of scientific works in process have had to remove their names from publications for these publications to proceed; others have chosen to pause or withdraw their publications. While some of these actions are directly related to the executive order to #HHS employees to cease communications, many have been undertaken preemptively by authors who are not subject to the order but are presumably fearful of the challenges of communicating complex findings in this current environment. Some authors are engaging in anticipatory compliance by scrubbing from their manuscripts words they fear may be deemed, in the moment, politically unacceptable…We remain steadfast in our guidance to authors and readers across the JAMA Network journals and endorse and adhere to the standards set by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors [#ICMJE]…We will act flexibly, where appropriate, to ensure that censoring efforts will not silence the integrity of the scientific process or clear communication of scientific information important for health."

  18. The US #PHS currently recommends a water #fluoride concentration of only 0.7 mg/L: cdc.gov/fluoridation/about/com

    Is that too high?

    Not according to today's #JAMA #metaAnalysis: “a dose-response association [between #IQ and water fluoride] was…null at less than 1.5 mg/L", even in "low risk-of-bias studies": doi.org/10.1001/jamapediatrics

(The most viral posts I've seen about the JAMA paper ignore its second sentence.)
