  2. So Iran uses Legos for videos.
I've been seeing some of that type of stuff on HBO and I usually avoid it because it's Legos. But HBO changed my mind when I accidentally encountered the end of the movie "Ninja Ninjago" which schooled me on that matter: I saw that this one in particular was a #JackieChan movie, and I have an appetite for Jackie Chan movies even though he's gone Japanese in this one (he's Chinese).
Gonna be looking for that one on the sked so that I can watch that from beginning to end, uninterrupted.

As we grab a chair, we might keep our focus on Hong Kong: it was on this date in 1978 that Snake in Eagle’s Shadow was released. A  Hong Kong martial arts action comedy film, it was the debut of director  Yuen Woo-ping, and the breakthrough outing for its stars,  Jackie ChanHwang Jang-lee, and (Yuen Woo-ping’s real life father) Yuen Siu-tien.

The film is the story of Chien Fu (Jackie Chan), an orphan who is bullied at a kung fu school, but meets an old beggar, Pai Cheng-tien (Yuen Siu-tien), who becomes his sifu (teacher) and trains him in Snake Kung Fu. The film established Chan’s slapstick kung fu comedy style– which he further developed with Drunken Master, also directed by Yuen Woo-ping, released in the same year, and also starring Jackie Chan, Hwang Jang-lee and Yuen Siu-tien. Snake in Eagle’s Shadow (and Drunken Master) established the basic plot structure used in many, many martial arts films internationally since then.

  12. Well well well, I do hope that #JackBlack was watching the #Olympics skate gala. That amazing skater of Kazakhstan did an impressive tribute to his movie, Kung Fu Panda...and was awarded stuffed pandas by none other than Master Monkey himself, #JackieChan .

Of course the other skating medalists were amazing, with 4 skaters being particularly stellar and if you've been watching the competitions, I'm sure you know exactly who those are. HINT: two of them were a skating pair from Japan.

  13. Today’s #kungfusat features #JackieChan playing a totally different character: Doctor Jack Chan.

And then “Jones Lee” as a name? It’s like when JK Rowling pulls 2 surnames from unrelated cultures and names the token Asian character “Cho Chang”

  14. Jackie Chan’s best film in years?

The Shadow’s Edge plays like Heat with full contact martial arts. Chan and Tony Leung Ka Fai deliver serious showdowns, while Zhang Zifeng signals the next generation.

  15. Re next #KungFuSat , I just came across Kung Fu Yoga on Mercado Play (free streamer for Latin America).

Pros: Free, in Mandarin (I hear Jackie Chan doing the opening narration in his own voice)

Cons: the web player has been enshittified and there are no more language options... so Mandarin with *no* subs to turn on (not even Spanish) 🤷‍♀️
