Ed gets the chance to apologize, to admit he'd been no better than his father, to cry, tell Izzy he gets if he wants nothing to do with him, that he'll leave if that's what Izzy wants, if its what he NEEDS, only for Izzy to pull him into a hug and affectionally call him a twat.

Ed sobbing and Izzy shushing him, something unraveling in both of them, a hurt they took on as children, begins to heal. Ed tells Izzy he loves him, he's so sorry and he's always loved him. Izzy laughs wetly and says he knows. "I know everything about you, Ed" Ed keeps sobbing.

Hours pass, and now Ed is lying in Izzy's lap, frantically telling him about his plans for his and Stede's Inn. Izzy is looking at him with such fondness. Ed eyes him conspiratorially.
“I could use a guy to help, ya know, do the books?"
Izzy smiles sadly. "No, Ed. I quit."

Ed's face falls.
"What?" he sits up, "Wha-what do you mean? I-I know the place is a bit shabby, now, but it's gunna be something Iz, and I need you to help!"
Izzy shakes his head.
"I don't think that's a good idea, love."
Ed shivers at the pet name.
"But... but I apologized!"

Izzy looks fond. "Yeah. I accept your apology."
"Then why?!"
"...We're not good for each other, Ed. And I like pirating? I feel I know so much about you but..." Izzy looks sheepish "...you don't even understand me."
Ed feels like all the blood in his veins has turned to ice.

Ed eye's dart around, mind forming a new plan.
"What if- what if I stay on the ship? What if.. I don't have to do the inn thing- Stede is just going along with if anyway- I-I could-"
"Edward," Izzy says firmly.
Ed quiets and looks to Izzy.
Izzy shakes his head.
"The crew wouldn't stand for it. And neither would I."

Ed gapes, eyes filling with tears. "But... you're my family! You... you can't just leave me, Iz! I need you!"
Izzy sighs. "Ed, you said if I needed you to leave me alone, you would."
Ed groans, dragging his hands through his hair.
"I didn't think you'd fuckin take me up on it!"

Izzy laughs and Ed wipes his tears shaking his head.
"I didn't think I would either," Izzy admits, "but it feels like what we need."
Ed whimpers, curling in on himself. Izzy wraps an arm around him and pulls him close.
"You're my family, too, Ed. You'll always be my family."

"You're just saying that!" Ed cries.
Izzy presses a kiss to Ed's hair. "No, you're my family, Ed. Always have been. My pesky little brothers, you and Jack."
Ed smiles miserably to himself. "But.. I'll miss you..."
Izzy nods. "Here..."
Ed looks up & watches as Izzy slowly unties his cravat.

Ed's eyes widen. "Iz..."
Izzy takes the ring in his hand. "This was my mum's. She was a bit like you," Izzy says, looking at the ring fondly, "A bit... scattered at times..."
Ed sits there quietly, learning all this for the first fine.
"But she was smart as whip," Izzy smiles.

"And she always tried to be kind... she tried even tho she lived a hard life and wasn't always good at it, she always tried." Izzy looks to Ed, holding out the ring.
Ed begins to shake his head frantically. "Izzy! I can't take that! It's all you have of ur mum."

"I want you to have it," Izzy said, grasping Ed's hand and tucking the ring into his palm, "I want to pass this onto my family."
Ed looked down at the ring and back up at Izzy with his fave a wreck of tears.
"Izzzzyyyy!!!"
Izzy holds Ed as he continues sobbing.

"I'll cherish it forever!!" Ed cries, "I swear! I won't lose it."
Izzy chuckles. "You better not, you twat. I better not see it on Bonnet's hand when I get back, or I'll slice it clean of."
Ed burst into wet laughter and Izzy laughs with him.
