💕 200m into today's icy #bikeride I saw a #fox 🦊 in the nature reserve.He was too quick to photo but may have had a pixie in his jaws given where he was.The #Ironbridge and Coalport bridge looking particularly frosty and the River #Severn high. Snow due.

My 10mile #bike ride into the #Ironbridge gorge took twice the usual time post #StormDarragh .25 separate blockages of route by #fallentrees plus the detour because the flood barriers are going up on the wharfage.Was probably right to stay on indoor turbo yesterday: )

Our last stop in #Shropshire was #Telford to see the #IronBridge. Spanning the river Severn, it's a famous landmark for being the first major bridge built of cast iron. We enjoyed a museum visit & a slow wander up the town to cross on foot. We learned the bridge was once crossed by an elephant as part of a successful marketing ploy by a visiting circus. It remained a toll road (charging for animal passage, pedestrians & even royalty) until 1950 when it passed into public ownership. [04/24]

Once we got the bus from Madeley, we visited #Ironbridge and walked up a steep road to visit the Blue School, so-named for its blue bricks. It was up for sale a while ago and my mum would’ve liked to open a school for verbatim stenographers (court reporters before the courts saved money with tape recorders instead). It needs too much doing, though, and neither of us are quite country enough for Telford and it’s slow public transport anyway, we now realise, but it’s a nice place to visit.

The #IronBridge museums and Iron Bridge Gorge area are a great place to explore with a camera.
The official advice is to drive between the different sites, because they're quite spread out.
If you follow that advice, you'll miss out on so many other wonderful shots that capture the character of the area.

I 💕 this time of year.
Up and out on the #bike before 5am.Rode down into the #Severn gorge .Saw the sun come up over Sutton Hill on the way back up the Silkin Way. So quiet apart from the birds.
