Debtors prison is just one example of many vacant and derelict buildings in Dublin that could be community spaces, museums, arts spaces, even homes or commercial spaces. We need ambition, we need someone who will fight to put these old buildings back into use and to breathe life into the city again. I know I have that fight in me. If you vote for me on May 22nd I’ll get to work straight away on fighting for the Dublin we deserve.

For decades, the accepted story of Annie Moore, the first immigrant through Ellis Island on New Year's Day 1892, held that she moved to Texas, ran a hotel, and died in a streetcar accident. It was entirely wrong. Years of research by professional genealogist Megan Smolenyak uncovered the truth. Untapped New York tells the full story.

In 1848, the Irish Tricolour 🇮🇪 was presented in #Dublin. Inspired by the French Revolution, the flag was designed to symbolise a lasting truce between "Orange" and "Green." Thomas Francis Meagher's vision of peace remains a cornerstone of Irish identity. Explore the history of our national emblem on Vicipéid today.

In 1903, #Waterford hosted #Ireland's first St. Patrick’s Day parade. While the tradition began in the #US, this milestone helped turn the feast day into a public cultural festival at home. The day became an official public holiday that same year. Read more about the history of our national day on Vicipéid.
