When your interviewee has been coached by a former journalist, you're not just facing one person across the table - you're facing your own profession turned against you. Here we look at how to spot and avoid the tactics.

Qs I asked during my latest tech interview process I went through as an applicant:
- What's your favourite Slack channel?
- What's the mix of jr to mid to snr engineers on your team? Would you change that if you could?
- When was the last time you were able to pay off some tech debt?
- What is the onboarding process like?
- Do you use C4 (or similar) to document systems and (micro)services?
- What would a successful first 6 months look like? -

I amazed myself today by finishing a technical take-home in three hours.
It consisted of writing a piece of software from scratch (for me, using golang) that makes continuous writes to a database and inserts an error about 10% of the time.
It also emits counter metrics to a prometheus endpoint when those events happen. With golang runtime because I am a huge nerd.
Oh it also is fully deployable to kubernetes to work with the postgres db and metrics exporter.
Works on my machine... if not a homerun let's hope at least a three-base-hit...
... or a three BASS hit, wubba wubba wubba, come on my selector!!! hire me!!!

Been working a lot of late nights taking feedback about HiredCoach and converting it into new features for people. HiredCoach is now completely different from the start of the beta.
Your resume is compared against the job listing to highlight where you match, and what you want to focus on when presenting yourself to the company.
You can now practice talking about yourself - the general "you", your education, a specific job. You can also have it help you try and incorporate targeting a specific role when practicing.
Interviews are now various sizes - if you want a quick hit 3 question study session or a full 30 minute interview, we have you covered.
I'm excited because I think I can actually legitimately help people with this.

Fantastic post (and I can personally attest to it's veracity... I've never felt so utterly dumb as when I hit a roadblock in a live coding session and just... froze)

I could expound for hours on here about interviews and interviewing, which I find fascinating as a craft. Mostly I'm a fan of radio/podcast techniques – TV is similar but with its own quirks.
Many weirdnesses & tropes in both interviewers and guests. So few are good at it, and strange trends spread thru' occasionally.
Mea Culpa: I've never done it myself and would probably be terrible too (though I might at least make an effort at some basic guardrails).

"This trend from businesses has led to an arms race of escalating automation, with candidates using AI to generate interview answers while companies deploy AI to detect them—creating what amounts to machines talking to machines while humans get lost in the shuffle."
