  1. Sydney's inner west should be a cycling paradise, but is actually dangerous shithole, all because car drivers worried about losing car parking spaces (which they never do):

  2. Marrickville’s last bastion of $390/wk art-deco flats faces the wrecking ball for luxury towers. 18 families displaced, 8 “affordable” units for 15 yrs only—then market rates. This isn’t density, it’s gentrification in hard hats.

  3. First time I've been in Marrickville on a Saturday night in years and it is *packed*, literally hordes on the street. Is this what it's like now??

  4. The thing that really lets #innerwest pubs down is their inability to properly attach a toilet seat to the bowl. #innerwestaletrail

  5. roamed the #innerWest today :awesome: ☺️ #Sydney has some pretty corners

  6. (*the entire building is pretty pretty 😺 #RPA #innerWest )

  9. Did anyone else in the inner west of Sydney hear a huge boom around 8pm? Heard from New town station, but sounded kilometres away - big reverberations, no light

  10. If you live in the #InnerWest, or anywhere in the #Sydney area really, have a look at this petition to make #VictoriaRd better for people:

Since there’s going to be a toll-free bypass between the Rozelle Interchange and the Iron Cove Bridge, we could repurpose some of the above ground space for pedestrians, cyclists, trees and more.

  11. Big Saturday date night with the gorgeous and glamorous @tarcyg

Drinks at Odd Culture in #Newtown before dinner at Bar Louise, then across the road to the Duke of Enmore to catch the last few songs in a very cool Punk Ska band set.

Looking for a dance we then ended up at the Burdekin at a free Emo dance event. Fun but we were by far the oldest there, and our genres are punk, grunge and goth rather than emo.

We finished up dancing at gay club Universal (the old Night Shift). A fantastic, happy and positive crowd. A really fun and very #Sydney and #innerwest night

  12. I wrote a blog post discussing how Canada Bay is planning to remove the Heath Street separated cycleway (funded by a $7 million grant from the NSW Government) based on a misleading traffic report.

    jakecoppinger.com/2023/03/cana

    In this blog post I:

    - Show the council is removing the cycleway while claiming to “modify” it.
    - Show the council is removing the cycleway due to the third-party report.
    - Outline errors and flaws in the engineering report prepared by a third party (which has now been hidden from the Canada Bay Council website).

To support my analysis I conducted a drone aerial imagery survey using a commodity drone (following CASA laws), creating a 3D model and pointcloud to take measurements on, along with capturing #Mapillary imagery and surveying on #openstreetmap

  13. Canada Bay council is planning to remove a separated cycleway on Heath Street: collaborate.canadabay.nsw.gov.

Heath Street is a crucial link in a six-part East-West regional cycleway connecting Canada Bay in Sydney’s inner west with the western suburbs. The Heath Street section was enabled by $7 million grant from the NSW Government.

The council removed the “Design review report” by McLaren Traffic Engineering from their website, which recommends removing the cycleway.

Fortunately, the Wayback Machine indexed the page 30th Jan 23, showing the now removed report on the right sidebar: web.archive.org/web/2023013023

The report link itself was not yet archived, but is currently live.
I’ve run the indexer on it so it’s archived for good now: web.archive.org/save/https://c
