@recantha I wouldn't say info-beamer is more user friendly than Anthias. But it does deliver a massive array of features at very low cost. If Anthias is working for you, why change? Unless the three-updates-every-time is getting too wearing. Info-beamer will certainly make that pain go away.

@recantha We tried hard to like Anthias. The user interface is delightfully simple, which was a big thing in its favour.

Sadly nothing we did would persuade it to a) remember the resolution and orientation of our displays or b) USE the portrait orientation configured for one of the displays. Maybe we were doing it wrong.

We asked about screenly, but they don't support pi5 yet, and that's the hardware we had. Plus they said it requires constant Internet access, and we need a solution that will keep displaying even if the internet drops out.

Info-beamer it is exactly what we need and the price for our two or three displays is most acceptable for our not-for-profit theatre venue.

Can't fault the support either :-)

Finally got infobeamer working on a Raspberry Pi 5 after two days of pain that ended when I replaced a perfectly good, known-working SD card with another brand new card. Fuuuu......

Huge props to Florian Wesch at info-beamer for patiently working through everything else that could possibly be wrong, especially as it was 100% not his fault that an SD card supplied by an official Pi distributor (and even branded "Raspberry Pi") was the problem. Actually TWO of them were, which is why it took so long to accept the possibility that the cards were the problem.

Once the thrice-curséd card was replaced, the promised ten-minute install really did happen! Totally simple and straightforward.

Anyway, ended up with a working digital signage solution. A GOOD one. And amazingly it's free for minor use - it only costs if you go over a GB of data or have more than one display. Well, you do need to supply the infrastructure: Like a Pi, SD card, cables, display and an Internet connection.

Even if you need to pay for it it's ridiculously cheap.

So, if you need digital signage, do yourself a favour and check out info-beamer (info-beamer.com). And they are on Mastodon, too, how good is that :-)

@komomelani Ohne die Kurse, die sie verkaufen, ist man in der MA-Oberfläche leider ziemlich verloren. Aber MA ist eh zu teuer für den Hobbybereich.

Ansonsten mache ich noch ein wenig #SmartSignage-Krams mit #Infobeamer und möchte mir noch eine RGB-#LED-#Matrix-Anzeige bauen... da klemmt's aber noch an der Stromversorgung der Panels.

Eine kleinere LED-Anzeige hatte ich schon auf Arduino umgebaut, das klappt soweit sehr gut.
