Marvel, what took you so long to have a Female Hero Origin Story directed by a woman?
A very positive set of lessons about what heroes of any variety look like. Gender, colour of blood, and number of arms or tentacles do not matter; it’s what is in your heart that counts.

Good over evil, science with a modicum of hand-wavy content, and a positive message about helping others.

It’s all come down to this.
There are so many threads, all tightening into a knot of Gordian complexity. It is inevitable, no matter how it may seem that the Big Bad Man can actually be stopped, the train wreck is already forming and cannot be diverted (nor can the wreck of these metaphors be avoided).
The ‘snapture*’ is so insidious in its silence that its power is ten-fold.

While extremely silly at times (not a bad thing, by the way), the most important message here is one of eternity: family, friendship, and cultures. Yes, lives have an end, we lose friends, and people lose their homes.
But everything continues, all the same.

A surprisingly complicated story here. Some would say ‘unnecessarily so.’ I think at one point there are five plot threads waving around. With all that, however, it works.
‘What is family’ and ‘which is the more important of knowledge and heart’ are two questions posed. The answers are ‘whatever you make it,’ and ‘what you feel in your heart.’
Always a good message to remember.

Sometimes there are no villains, no heroes, just victims.
Compromise is a double-edged sword, and that’s just the ‘best case’ scenario.
Enough aphorisms.
There’s a whole bunch of complicated stuff going on in here, chief being the question of what ‘freedom’ and ‘responsibility’ actually look like.
Plus some answers to ‘if [x] and [y] got into a fight, who would win?’
SPOILER: no one. No one wins.

More goofy than the usual #Marvel film, this makes a wonderful palate cleanser after the insidious darkness of ‘Ultron.’
The premise itself is preposterous. Having Paul Rudd just makes it exponentially sillier. But thank goodness it exists, because it gives Michael Douglas a chance to prove what a gifted comic actor he can be when given the permission.
Definitely a ‘feel good’ picture.

Sure, it’s a bunch of flying robots being beaten up and torn apart by people with inordinate strength, speed, and magical powers — which is great! — but there’s a bigger question to consider here.
How superior can Humanity consider itself to be, when logic says that we are the greatest threat to both the world and ourselves? Logic suggests that the plague the planet must rid itself of is… us.
So, Ultron is right to want us gone.

Captain America fully enters the 21st Century by coming face-to-face with the reality of the Surveillance State. If you think that it’s fiction, consider this: the NSA and Homeland Security can take you into custody and hold you indefinitely based on evidence which would normally be considered ‘fruit of the poisoned tree’ and no one will stop them.
No one watches the watchers.
But watch this picture for an ending which should be.

Everything before was to set up this. The #Avengers team is formed, the Big Bad is fought, the danger has passed.
Or has it…?
There are layers of material being revealed here, much of which are explored further on, but S.H.I.E.L.D. Is not the squeaky clean org that naïve Steve Rogers thought they were. What government agency is, after all?
Throughout the action, there’s great writing and acting.

As jingoistic as this can be at times (a ‘star-spangled man with a plan‽’ really?), this is a good old fashioned hero action movie with a heart. The romance is a bit cookie-cutter, and lacks depth, but its presence is important to fit the needs of the time it is from.
Somehow we’ve lost the view of ‘crazy NAZIs are crazy.’ Maybe Cap can resurface in our reality, for the sake of everyone.
This is the most important one thus far.

Hardly a straight-forward story, we have to learn all the intricacies of two disparate situations: a version of our own, and that of Asgard and the Frost Giants. Thus, it is both Wagnerian and a ‘fish out of water’ Ealing Studios film. Not easy for anyone other than a Shakespearean director.
Well told, but ultimately more constructive than entertaining per se, it builds a foundation more than anything else.

The #Avenger #InfinitiSaga continues!
Now we’re cooking with gas! We know the characters well enough now that new situations of greater complexity can be presented so that things can get more exciting.
Three signs of this are: two antagonists, Sam Rockwell (filmmakers! Cast this man in everything), and the AWB’s “Pick Up the Pieces!” Any of these would be excellent, all of them together mean extra goodness!!
Highly recommended action & humour.
