Here's a wee post in memory of Gimli Pig, our guinea pig, who passed away yesterday. My daughter and I caught Gimli and his brother Scruffles back in 2019 in the reserve by our house, where someone had abandoned them and the rest of the family. It took us a couple of days, with help from several neighours, to catch them all.
Gimli and Scruffles ended up living in our lounge, while their mother and another young one went to one of my daughter's school friends.
They were the first guinea pigs I'd had. In general, they're ridiculous animals, with a surprising amount of personality. Gimli would weep excitedly every morning when I peeled a carrot for my lunch, as he and our rabbits would get the peelings.
Gimli outlived his brother by a year and chummed up with our rabbit Firecracker after she outlived her sister.
He lived a long and contented life, and we appreciated his company.
