  1. Today I'm running Madness on Geneva Lake, a #CoC adventure to celebrate the 50th anniversary of #Chaosium (founded 31 October 1975).

There are some editorial problems with the book. In particular, the stats for Dr. King are missing.

In the past, I would have searched #forums for errata or to see if other players had filled in the blanks. But today all such discussions take place in #walledgardens like #Discord which are not #indexed or #searchable.

I guess I'll just wing it.

  6. "we need to bring back #gamefaqs. i don't wanna join your stupid #discord. i don't wanna use your ugly shitty fandom #wiki. i don't wanna have to dig through poorly-organzied #reddit threads. we want bespoke ascii header art! we want plaintext documents and #guides with minimal clutter that are properly #indexed and #easy to #navigate!"

  9. Dear fellow sauropod.winners (and other people whose servers are on Mastodon 4.2): here's how to get your posts #indexed for #searching.

    1. Click "Edit profile" next to your avatar at top left.
    2. Click the "Privacy and reach" tab at the top of the "Public profile" page that you landed on.
    3. Scroll down to the "SEARCH" subsection.
    4. Click on the "Include public posts in search results" checkbox.
    5. Click "SAVE CHANGES" at the bottom of the page.

... And you're good to go!

  10. We are supportive of adding bots of accounts or #stubAccounts on fediverse, until such time as the folk on the social #dotCons move over to Fediverse.

Such accounts ahould be #indexed by search engines so people can find it when #searching for the entity online.

By not having #fediverse results in search engines it really only hurts ourselves.

If its on Fediverse, its public — not private.

  11. If you want your #Mastodon posts #archived, you can use #InternetArchive for that.
Just search for the #RSS link of your profile with the #WaybackMachine, and when it says it's not #indexed yet, choose to #index it and remember to select outlinks as well:
    web.archive.org/
The RSS link to your profile is like so:
    rukii.net/users/tero.rss

  12. @richvn Given the content filters & warnings that are a core part of the #fediverse experience, why not have an opt-in free text #search? ie we build a system where profiles, posts/toots can be opted in to be #indexed and fully #searchable. Would need wider community support (eg from @Gargron & others) but this would be v useful while avoiding controversy #fedsearch.io
