ROCKLAND, Maine (WABI) - "The Rockland Rotary Club is building a stronger community. A playground for everyone is coming this week to the Rockland area.

"This all-inclusive playground was the site of a grand opening ceremony this morning. It’s at the the old MacDougal school.

"The project was headed by the Rockland Rotary Club. Some funding challenges led to it taking 2 years to make this possible.

"Featuring over 10 structures kids can play on, it also offers isolation pods and rubber ground for access to each section.

"'I think it’s going to be a tremendous draw to the mid-coast area, people will travel to be here and it will become a destination and so the idea of an all-inclusive is children that have physical challenges, emotional, intellectual, social challenges all can benefit from this playground,' stated Susan Page, who was in charge of the playground fundraising for the Rockland Rotary Club.

"'It will facilitate children of all challenges, kids in wheelchairs, kids who have sensory issues, there’s these little pods where they can isolate themselves and if they want, they can spin around and there’s easier access for like someone who’s helping a child with a wheelchair,' added Sergeant-at-Arms for the Rockland Rotary Club Emily Dillon.

"The playground will be open and ready to be played on by 5 p.m. Thursday afternoon."
