To all the naysayers who (without trying this themselves or reading the history of moderation on the platform or reading the community guidelines) keep telling me that #NextDoor is not a good place to organize locally and change attitudes, I just got this email. And so did all of my neighbors who post hyper-conservative, gun-gloating, conspiracy-minded, suspicious, aggressive, religiously superior messages there. (Oooh I bet they're fuming.) I'm going to continue to call them out, and I'll know that NextDoor will have my back when I moderate their asses. I'm staying focused, like NextDoor is, on creating a kinder, closer community where everyone feels welcome. This will undermine fascism's hold in this area, and it could in your region, too, if you feel so called.
