I'm increasingly convinced the IAB/IESG needs to define a special process before having any consideration or publication of "IPvN" drafts, in the same way that the patent office needed to special-case perpetual motion machines. There's been a disproportionate amount of time and effort from single-author proposals (eg, "IPv8", "IPv10") that has gone into discussing them, including lots of thrash from lots of non-technical folks asking if they need to care about them. The Register article on IPv8 is likely not helping either.
While there should be a path to innovation in the future, any change to the neck of the internet's hourglass is a massive multi-stakeholder undertaking.

Wow, from 123 spam, phishing, and sphere phishing mails 114 were towards the address I used for the #TLS #serverAuth related proposal on the #IETF mailing list.If not for those spam mails I would have entirely forgotten about that draft by now...
There was one person from the google ca program in the loop but besides getting pissy about being asked to point some of his coworkers towards the mailing list noting really happened...

I think it is really important to analyze the implication of the new IETF Draft Meow MRRP in the wild. I strongly assume it will lead to widespread loss of carriers when applied in areas where IP over Avian Carrier is in use. More research is needed. And funding!

The counter-argument to this seems to be that the IETF has "not seen" any coercion from the NSA in their org, so that makes their intentions pure in ratifying a riskier form of post-quantum crypto signatures. But DJB is saying that the IETF ignored the majority of their membership who were against ratifying a similar (non-hybrid) tech which turned out to be flawed. So barreling ahead with a new non-hybrid proposal (this time for signatures) looks suspicious, possibly the result of US corporate interests that tend to give the NSA what it wants.
