  1. And that’s the final #IAMCR2024 session blogged, and a very good one it was too: snurb.info/taxonomy/term/218

For those of you playing at home, that was another 15,000 words of liveblogging. Off to Social Media & Society, London, the week after next for the final leg of my triathlon.

  2. Interesting morning session at #IAMCR2024 on the boundaries of journalism. Liveblog here: snurb.info/taxonomy/term/218

  3. 🎙️ Right, just pre-recorded an interview with ABC Radio NSW Statewide that should be broadcast later today, and about to go live (I think) on Radio New Zealand about NZ’s foolhardy attempt to copy the NMBC. Then off to the #IAMCR2024 conference dinner.

  4. Last set of liveblog posts from #IAMCR2024 for the day, from a nice session on disinformation and social media that had a surprisingly strong focus on Taiwan: snurb.info/taxonomy/term/218

  5. General #IAMCR2024 observation: bringing your conference presentation as a PDF is nothing but trouble. Just swallow your pride and use a damn Powerpoint already.

(One person designed their slides in Google Slides and then printed the Slides _site_ as a PDF. Not recommended. 🤪)

  6. Pretty good #IAMCR2024 panel on (broadly) digital media and politics in China, Australia, Pakistan, and Mexico. Liveblog here:

  7. ‼️ Also possibly of interest to #IAMCR2024 and #ICA24 participants (and others !): at the @qutdmrc node of @admscentre, we have just advertised four three-year Postdoctoral Research Fellowships and three PhD scholarships.

  8. A very full #IAMCR2024 panel on (broadly) polarisation, also featuring my @qutdmrc colleague Tariq Choucair’s presentation of our work on political discussions in football fan groups on Facebook during the controversial 2022 World Cup in Qatar:

  9. 📣 And speaking of polarisation, #IAMCR2024: my wonderful colleagues and I currently have a CfP out on “Fringe Democracy and the Platformisation of the Public Sphere”. Send us your work !

  10. An interesting early morning session on polarisation at #IAMCR2024. Liveblog here: snurb.info/taxonomy/term/218

  11. 🆕 Because I just wasn't busy enough with #IAMCR2024, I've also just written a quick piece for @ConversationEDU on what might happen next with Meta and news in Australia, and why we should kill the failed News Media Bargaining Code as soon as we can:

  12. A great #IAMCR2024 session on populism and propaganda, and a rather more mixed-quality session on journalism and conflict, and that’s the end of Day Two. Liveblog here: snurb.info/taxonomy/term/218

  13. Hmm, a very mixed panel to start the day at #IAMCR2024 – sadly also with yet another paper that mistakes news curation for ‘echo chambers’. Liveblog here, for what it’s worth: snurb.info/taxonomy/term/218

  14. And that’s the final #IAMCR2024 session blogged for the day – now to do a quick bit of writing on the side… 😞
    Liveblog here: snurb.info/taxonomy/term/218

  15. Kind of an interesting #IAMCR2024 session on narratives about Ukrainian cultural heritage in Global South media following Russia’s full-scale invasion. Liveblog here: snurb.info/taxonomy/term/218

  16. In this opening session at #IAMCR2024, I also presented my @qutdmrc team’s study of communicative practices on Facebook during the failed 2023 Voice to Parliament referendum for Indigenous recognition and participation in Australia. Slides are here:

  17. OK,#IAMCR2024 liveblogging (and presenting) has started – and for my troubles they gave us the 08:30 slot on a Monday morning. 😵🥱

Here are my notes from the session: snurb.info/taxonomy/term/218

  18. I’m in Christchurch at #IAMCR2024 for the second leg of my conference triathlon – and just to add a further challenge, our paper on destructive polarisation in the Voice to Parliament campaign has been scheduled for 08:30 on the Monday morning. That’s 06:30 Brisbane time… 😩

  19. Well, that’s #ICA24 and week one of my conference triathlon successfully completed. Now off to see Mildlife at the Princess Theatre before I head to #IAMCR2024 in Christchurch tomorrow night, and then to Social Media & Society in London for the final legs… 😳🤪🫠

  20. 🚨 Out now: three new PhD scholarships on intersections between artificial intelligence, search, and advertising available in the @qutdmrc node of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society (ADM+S). 👋 #ICA24 #IAMCR2024

Apply now to start in early 2025.

  21. Spending today at the #IAMCR2024 preconference on Generative AI in Research, organised at the @qutdmrc by the excellent @astaze. And then off to IAMCR itself in Christchurch.

  22. Wheee, and that’s the final #ICA23 panel blogged: snurb.info/taxonomy/term/217

Signing off here, after a total of 21,000 words of liveblogging. More soon from some of the postconferences, and #IAMCR2024… 😵

  23. Right. Taking some time out from #ICA24 to start preparing our papers for #IAMCR2024 in two weeks' time... 😣

  24. 👋 Oh hi there, #ICA24 #IAMCR2024 - @gba, Laura Iannelli, @EssiDeh, and I are editing this special issue of _ComPol_ together - abstracts due 30 July 2024 !
