Vom 19. - 25. Oktober ist die Woche der unsichtbaren Behinderungen.

  9. Headline: How can HR reduce hidden disability discrimination at work?

    Source: HRMagazine
From the article: “Educating staff on how to be allies, hearing from others what it is like to live with a given hidden disability, and fostering a more psychologically safe environment will go a long way to improving the conditions for staff to feel able to share their disability. There needs to be greater education, understanding and empathy towards colleagues, customers and visitors who may use disabled toilets, or ask for help due to their unseen disability or condition. Staff need to understand that, just because the person isn’t in a wheelchair, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t struggling, in pain, or in need of help.”

  14. The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a simple tool for you to voluntarily share that you have a disability or condition that may not be immediately apparent – and that you may need a helping hand, understanding, or more time in shops, at work, on transport, or in public spaces.

Globally 1 in 6 of us live with a disability. That is approximately 1.3 billion people.

But while some of us experience a disability that is visible, many have a non-visible condition or experience a combination of both visible and non-visible conditions. These disabilities can be temporary, situational or permanent. They can be neurological, cognitive and neurodevelopmental as well as physical, visual, auditory and include sensory and processing difficulties. They can also be respiratory as well as chronic health conditions such as arthritis and diabetes, chronic pain and sleep disorders.

¡Gracias!

  17. Wore my sunflower #HiddenDisabilities lanyard in a shopping centre to prevent staff from talking to me. Instead it turned me into a staff magnet and I became overwhelmed from everyone asking if I needed help. Not great. #ActuallyAutistc

  19. Have you heard of the Jam card. It is available as a card or an app.

JAM stands for just a minute. It's a scheme that aims to help raise awareness with all kinds of service providers that some of us need a little more time during various transactions.

A great resource for autistic folks, those with learning disabilities or anyone with a hidden disability who would like a discrete way to ask for a little more time.

If you want to find out more visit the website here: jamcard.org/jam-card-for-me

Patrick Costello TD ("Green Party TD for Dublin South Central. Spokesperson for Justice. Proud dad") & Niamh Ní Hoireabhaird ("disability advocate and activist & journalist") were the 2 guests and both were against the proposals

Often, you cannot “see” kidney disease, cognitive disabilities, neurological conditions, cancer, prosthetic limbs, etc. All of these and more qualify as disabilities, and these individuals are allowed access to a disabled placard to make their lives and the world that much easier to navigate."
