  1. @Mr_Xarii Great photo: The fascinating #hummingbird #hawkmoth (#Macroglossum #stellatarum) is native to the #Palearctic realm and is a #migrating #lepidopteran. Its conspicuous #hummingbirdlike #flight is responsible for some confusion with true hummingbirds. This text by Stefan F. Wirth

  6. Hawkmoth v0.20 is out!

Hawkmoth is a Sphinx extension to import C and C++ documentation comments into Sphinx based documentation.

The main new feature in this release is automatic configuration of the system header search paths. Unfortunately, libclang does not get them right out of the box on most distros, so we have to help it a little.

  7. I went for a walk yesterday in Zeeland and saw LOTS of caterpillars on the road at a certain point. Luckily there was little to no car traffic there. Most were black with spikes, those will become peacock butterflies (Aglais io, 🇳🇱 dagpauwoog). But I also saw a HUGE green one of the hawk-moth (Agrius convolvuli, 🇳🇱 windepijlstaart). Apparently those are rare in NL.

  8. It’s National Moth Week, July 20-28, to celebrate the beauty, lifecycles and habitat of moths, so I’m reposting my eclipse of moths (the delightful term of venery for a group of moths) and also for my #InsertAnInvert2024 wildcard week.

This hand-printed lino block print shows 5 of the noctural moths of Ontario in front of the moon at a lunar eclipse. The 5 moths are: the gorgeous green Luna moth (Actias luna), 🧵1/
