By the way we still have the IKEA #Haparanda sofa from the 1990s, including the Hocker. Not the most durable sofa but perfect size for small corners of our apartments ever since.

Any vacation tips in the #Oulu - #Haparanda area for my family this summer?
We are going on a short car trip to see #Hailuoto and #Kukkolaforsen at least, and we are looking for more things to do with a couple of preteens.
#Tietomaa would have been nice but it’s closed for renovations. Thinking about looking at worlds oldest diving suit in #Raahe.

Ab dem 10. August 2026 verkehren wöchentlich insgesamt 28 Züge zwischen #Oulu und #Haparanda, mit Anschluss an Tag- und #Nachtzug in Richtung #Helsinki. Die Verbindung via #Schweden ermöglicht #Bahnzeit auf dem Landweg nach #Finnland. Tack & Kiitos! 🇸🇪🚆🇫🇮

Nun steht es fest: Der erste Zug von #Oulu🇫🇮 nach #Haparanda🇸🇪 rollt am 10. August. Täglich wird es zunächst zwei Zugpaare geben. Der Ticketverkauf startet Ende Juni.

And what a station Haparanda is! Magnificent! The only thing missing is a cafeteria, but luckily I have some provisions. It does feel a tad unrespectful to nibble knäckebröd in this fancy environment, though.

Die guten Nachrichten sind ja selten dieser Tage, aber hier kommt eine: Die finnische Regierung fördert den Zugverkehr zwischen #Tornio 🇫🇮 und #Haparanda 🇸🇪. Im nächsten Jahr soll es losgehen, es könnte bis zu 30 Zugfahren die Woche über die Grenze geben.

Am Montag wurde in #Haparanda (🇸🇪) anlässlich der Fertigstellung der Elektrifizierung der Strecke nach #Tornio (🇫🇮) kräftig gefeiert. Nun heißt es Daumen drücken, dass bald auch die Züge rollen 🙌

🇸🇪⚡️🇫🇮 Die Elektrifizierung der Bahnstrecke von #Haparanda, Schweden nach #Tornio, Finnland ist abgeschlossen. Es wird aber vorerst keine grenzüberschreitenden Züge geben, da sich der finnische Staat bislang zu keiner Subventionierung des Verkehrs durchringen konnte.
