People often ask me if the hamsa is a Jewish symbol. The answer is one of my favorite things to share because it is so much bigger than any one of us. 🤚
The hamsa is ancient, older than the faiths that carry it today. In Jewish tradition it is the Hand of Miriam, sister of Moses. In Islam it is the Hand of Fatima. In some Middle Eastern Christian traditions it is the Hand of Mary. Different names, different homes, and the very same meaning in all of them. Protection. Blessing. Peace.
In a world that loves to draw lines between people I find something quietly hopeful in a single open hand that Jews, Christians, and Muslims have all held close for centuries. We share more than we are told we do.
