@liaizon I see your point, but isn't that an argument for accepting payments in as many different ways as possible? Doesn't that same argument apply to depending on alternatives like #Liberapay and #OpenCollective? Anyone collecting funds solely via #Gratipay was a out of luck when they were driven out of business.

I still think the #OpenEnterprise Governance Model has a lot of useful insights to offer about how such a structure can work for both users and devs (or creators and audience in a non-code commons):
https://www.invidio.us/watch?v=IdcAxGGRafc#BetterMeans promoted this almost 10 years ago now. IMHO they were way ahead of the curve and as with #Gratipay, it's sad their project didn't survive.

@funkwhale that's great. I've always imagined a system where I could discover new music, and when I find something I like, drop a coin in their digital busking hat. There's been some attempts to make this possible, like #Flattr and #Gratipay (RIP). A decentralized #BandCamp where artists could sell albums and merch would be great too. I've been intending to research and write about payment/ donation systems, but so far I've only written one blog piece on it:

#Gratipay shutdown. It's unfortunate, but honestly not unexpected. https://gratipay.news/the-end-cbfba8f50981
