CW: Current scare about machines writing student assigments
Of course let's not get sucked into these pseudo-debates about AI, VR and blockchain etc. But the current scare about students using writing tools..?
If the assignment is "replicate the discurse using the canonical references" then of course it can be replaced by AI. But how is that interesting teaching anyways?
Same for academic texts. The relevant part is not the replication. If AI is good at patterns and canonization.... Use it to discover patterns instead of reproducing them.
Then the more interesting challenge is to teach this tool use. -

What's the difference between invention & innovation? it's in making it widely usable and beneficial.
The #GPT3 model has been around for some time. But #ChatGPT put it to use in the form of a simple interactive #chatbot. Now people are getting excited. Kudos to the OpenAI team! 👏

Saw people comparing this recent AI hype to Crypto.
Blockchain has been over hyped rubbish with no substance from the beginning, a solution looking for a problem. A Ponzi scheme where everyone is incentivised to hype it
This AI stuff is so completely different, even as someone who's followed along over the last 12 months this explosion over the last week has completely caught me by surprise.
5 minutes playing with GPT Chat and anyone can immediately think of dozens of things it can disrupt. It's legit scary, the hype is real.
@mpesce 's keynote at #webdirections was my favourite talk. I reckon AI is all we'll be talking about in 12 months.
