Musical Interlude: OK, here's something to listen to while you do other stuff. Classical music isn't necessarily staid; this symphony is pretty intense.
It depicts the hallucinations of a man who's taken opium to deal with unrequited love. The first movement is reflective of his passions; the second, a vision of a ball, the third, a scene in the country where he realizes his love is not returned; the fourth is a march to the scaffold (you can hear the guillotine blade falling), and the last is a dream of a witch's sabbath, with his love taking part. It's fun stuff!

Excellent night out tonight seeing Molchat Doma from Belarus. The band are of post-Soviet generation in Belarus, singing in Russian and melding all the influences of early Goth music, new wave and the post-punk era. Echoes everywhere of early Sisters, New Order, new wave synth, the stuff I came of age listening to - all great to hear.
Through it all, instrumental passages with exquisitely beautiful guitar.
Good to see the local Goth community out in force too, sometimes to the bemusement of the Russian speakers in the crowd.
(Sorry no good pics, I'm just out of 8 days of flu, so I was up the back.)

I'd read so many good things about The Cure's last album, and seen it on many AOTY lists, that I finally bought a copy.
My, it's a dark and lovely thing. Lush, atmospheric, melodic, almost too intense in places. 🖤
Fittingly for an album so much about ageing and death, I bought it on CD, because I am... not that young. 😅
