  1. Today I learned a thing. I hiked often in the gorge from the first picture, but today I found out this was only sort of formed naturally. The river Kander was causing flooding and other disruptions to the village of Thun (picture 2), so early in the 1700's (!), they decided to dig a tunnel to get a more direct way for the Kander to reach Lake Thun (picture 3). However, in 1714 the tunnel collapsed by the raging water of the Kander and the river cut the gorge in the decades after that. Picture 4 shows the current situation.

  2. What to do in Ithaca New York other than getting drunk, stoned, or a college degree.
Ithaca puts two bastions of radical, anti-establishment, and progressive thought on Cayuga Lake, the middle finger of the Finger Lakes.

  3. I’m on my way back home from the Maritimes. Here’s a shot of Grand Falls in New Brunswick. What an incredible bit of white water and geological prehistory. #waterfall #gorge #NewBrunswick #GrandFalls #geology #Stratified #igneous
