With summer here and the Nolan Xavier Wells tragedy fresh - make sure your friends get home safe. Never assume they are 'good.' Wells' story is bringing up a lot of shared pain for BiPOC friends who know other similar stories. Don't forget to be kind today.

Heavy rain is expected for Vancouver Island & the South Coast of BC tonight. Stay clear of rushing water/streams & be ready for power outages by having a household emergency kit packed w/ batteries, blankets & warm clothes, food & water. (via Prepared BC)

" The shift from bone dry to extremely wet conditions is in line with what studies have been warning about for years — human-caused climate change is amplifying the effects of these extremes, making the dry years drier, and the wet periods wetter."
Aging infrastructure just can not withstand these weather events. BC roads and bridges fell apart just over a year ago. This will continue to happen in different ways in different places.

Buy or get a printing outlet to print a large map of your area preferably on waterproof paper. Then list on the map important or significant infrastructure that can have an impact or provide resources during disasters, extreme climate events, political unrest, riots, etc. These maps can help you plan a route or alternative route, avoid dangerous areas, find resources, and reconnaissance. You can get individual maps for many of these things but having one large complex map that includes items of importance to your situation is more portable and compact in your prepper kit. Add to the following for your own area:
-main highways and streets
-secondary roads
-forest service roads
-underpasses
-tunnels
-rivers, creeks, lakes, swamps
-bridges and waterway crossings
-boat docks
-emergency communication centres
-police, fire, ambulance stations
-forestry and marine centres
-water treatment facilities
-gas lines
-reservoirs
-current and decommissioned railways
-biking and hiking trails
-current and decommissioned mines
-radio towers and repeaters
-electrical towers and grid paths
-fire towers, ski and outfitter cabins
-safe houses, meet-up points
-places with abundant forage, fishing, hunting
-note extreme terrain such as rock cliffs, canyons, riparian areas
-possible toxic areas such as smelters, chemical manufacturing plants, nuclear facilities

@QasimRashid“Police kill more than 1100 civilians annually—unprecedented in the developed world.
A new app called TurnSignl, built by Black civil rights lawyers, deescalates police interactions with civilians & get everyone home safe.”
