095 - Moonstar
It's still hilarious there was a time when we were asked to question whether a character named Moonstar was an existing character named Moonstar, esp. when both Moonstars shared a similar power set & iconography.

094 - Locus
This is one of those characters I wish we'd gotten more of. She more or less just disappears after Reignfire's short-lived MLF implodes, barring that one later John Francis Moore X-Force story.

093 - Forearm
I really dig this card. Something about the old school "put up your dukes!" boxing pose. Plus the cardback basically being like, "Power: has four arms."

I always loved the recurring "Reaper keeps getting limbs cutoff by X-people" gag.

091 - Wildside
"Richard Gill" is just a great real name for this character (which I think this card may be revealing). Like, when he's not ripping out guts as Wildside, he's trimming the bushes of his suburban home as Dick Gill.

090 - Tempo
I don't know what "manipulating time" looks like, but this is pretty close.
I love that the cardback both cites her as a member of the MLF, and talks about how she quit the group.

We all remember Sinsear, right?
Right?
Heck, even Slayback has appeared in more stories than this guy.
Also, I still have no idea why his name is a pun on "sincere."

With this card, Slayback enters "the same number of trading cards appearances as story appearances" territory (two), at least as of '94.
Pretty good card, though. Nice depth & I like the tilt of the nonsensical skyline.

087 - Graydon Creed
We are at a point where Creed has actually appeared in comics, and yet, this card is still using the Jim Lee Upstarts card/Stryfe's Strike Files design.

086 - Siena Blaze
Continuing the run of Upstarts - which might be the most 1994 thing about this set. Though Siena Blaze is a legit inclusion at this time, and this is a good card (even if it makes her power look like "makes snow").

Not sure Julie Bell is the best artist for a character I associate most with the crosshatchy-Portacio style and the chonky JRjr style.

Definitely pro showcasing "hedonistic hot tub Shinobi" on his trading card. He should just always be in a hot tub.
I've never really considered how his power is basically just "Kitty Pryde."

Like Gideon, a better card than this character deserves.
I love how you can trace the shifting goals/prize of the Upstarts competition just via trading cards (in the Jim Lee series, it was immortality)

This single image imbues Gideon with more energy and personality than any single comic book appearance I can think of.

081 - Brood
A relatively action-oriented image relative to most of Sienkiewicz's other contributions to this set. I like that he chose to highlight their flying ability, which tends to get overlooked (and makes them even creepier).

080 - Sentinels
Underrated (by me) card. Effectively presents the idea of the Sentinels as boogymen. Putting two people in the foreground helps sell the scale and sense of menace while giving the image a bit of a narrative.

079 - Silver Samurai
Not sure what's happening with that left hand, but otherwise a decent rendition of another "greatest hits" villain.

078 - Nimrod
Another character who wasn't up to much in 1994, but I'm glad got included, especially since this is one of my favorite cards in the set. Love the different depth planes on it, from fist to body to wall to behind the wall.

077 - Wendigo
Whenever these sets' card counts get expanded it's always nice when the extra space is used to highlight older characters who maybe aren't in the spotlight at the moment, like Wendigo, vs. just the kewl new jobbers-du-jour.

Making his last appearance on a card as a villain, before his upcoming re-face turn ("Re-Face-ning"?) in the comics.

For a character known for her swordplay, this card sure features a lot of....[puts on sunglasses] guns [CSI Miami yowl].

074 - Mojo
I don't know if an extreme closeup on Mojo's face is the best way to capture his character, but at least it's an exceedingly well-done extreme closeup from Sienkiewicz, who may well be this set's stealth MVP.

073 - Matsu'o
Between killing Mariko, thawing out Omega Red and his tangential connection to the Upstarts, Matsu'o probably deserved a trading card long before this, yet he gets his first only around the time that he dies.

072 - Arcade
This might be my single favorite presentation of Arcade ever. Captures his personality & schtick well, great depth to the image. Good stuff.
Though at first glance, I always think it's Lilandra being blasted on the monitors.

Another year without any stories offering concrete background info on Sinister, another Sinister trading cardback trying to say something about nothing.😁
Having him holding Wolverine's (old) mask is an odd choice.

Well now, that mutant power is just flat out *wrong*. And I have no idea where it even came from, as that's not really close to anything superhuman we've ever seen from Maverick.

Havok usually trading cards well, and I generally dig Palmer's painted work, but this feels like a miss. Havok is channeling the Living Monolith a bit too much, especially w/the white pupil-less eyes.

Capturing Sunspot's power glow-up era. Something about the domino mask on his "dark solar" face works really well, despite being functionally ridiculous.

026 - Siryn
There's a way you can read this card as "she's just failing" and while I might like a little bit of a scream effect, I think you can also read it as a more dynamic "dropping in for an attack" picture.

019 - Shadowcat
With this set apparently laid out in the short 4 issue window when Excalibur was composed of just three members, it also means it's the first set to feature Kitty in her new post-puffy blue sleeves look.

Solid card, which manages to use his hoverchair without making it the dominate element of the image.
I have always been distracted by whatever the pole thing is that looks like it's coming out of the monitor.

Fantastic card. Love the "shredding" effect and just "Claws" as a power.
That said, feels like the bio should offer some context as to why he's listed as as an X-Man (esp. since that's not quite true).
