022 - Shatterstar
Fun look to this, almost like an animation cel.
The regeneration callout on the cardback is interesting; it's not wrong, but it's not something that got directly mentioned a lot in the comics.

021 - Cable
Fantastic card. Love seeing Sienkiewicz doing one of the "later" New Mutants.
This set briefly tries to make Six Pack happen, so Cable gets two Group Affiliations (Domino was flagged as Six Pack too).

020 - Domino
Because this set eschews listing a character's first appearance on the cardback, we don't know if it would have cited New Mutants #98 or X-Force #11 for Domino.

019 - Shadowcat
With this set apparently laid out in the short 4 issue window when Excalibur was composed of just three members, it also means it's the first set to feature Kitty in her new post-puffy blue sleeves look.

018 - Phoenix
On her way out the door for a solid chunk of years, Rachel gets one of her better trading card depictions. The look of serenity on her face is a nice touch.
-
017 - Nightcrawler
Perfect match of subject, approach & artist. Depicting Nightcrawler coming out of a teleport is clever & Sienkiewicz's abstract style creates the impression of a figure materializing from nowhere.
-
016 - Professor X
Solid card, which manages to use his hoverchair without making it the dominate element of the image.
I have always been distracted by whatever the pole thing is that looks like it's coming out of the monitor.
-
015 - Sabretooth
Fantastic card. Love the "shredding" effect and just "Claws" as a power.
That said, feels like the bio should offer some context as to why he's listed as as an X-Man (esp. since that's not quite true).
-
014 - Jean Grey
Feels like maybe she should have deflected those missiles further out. 😏
I like the contrast between her somewhat sedate, demure posing and the energy depicted by the missiles and her hair.

013 - Storm
I appreciate that her flight coming from wind is called out.
(cont.) From that one Christmas wax box, I was able to assemble a full set of cards - and IIRC, nabbed at least a half dozen chase cards.

012 - Archangel
In the running for best Archangel card of all time.
So after getting that wax box for Christmas, I somehow managed to show enough restraint to only open a few packs a day, and was able to stretch it out over break.
-
011 - Bishop
Nice to get a Bishop card where he doesn't have a gun.
I have a lot of affection for this set - Christmas of '94 I got a wax box (a box of packs) as one of my gifts.
-
010 - Iceman
Iceman's early 90s glow-up makes it to the trading cards.
-
009 - Banshee
Banshee, kind of in limbo pre-Generation X, gets tagged as a reservist, which is a fun way to include a historically-important but less active character.
Love the sense of motion created by the tilted skyline.

008 - Revanche
Nothing says "1994 X-Men" quite like this capture of the small sliver of time in which Kwannon-in-Betsy's-body was a de facto member of the team using a French (for some reason) codename.
-
007 - Psylocke
Bill Sienkiewicz with his first card of the set. Sadly, it's not the greatest Psylocke card.
-
006 - Wolverine
The way his bio is vague about the loss of adamantium makes me assume it was written before "Fatal Attractions" and makes me wonder if the writer even knew the details of the story beyond "radical changes."
-
005 - Jubilee
Great card, though I don't love the way it almost seems like she's missing her right arm.

-
004 - Gambit
Gambit looks like he's nailing a power chord in the middle of an arena show.
This set also credits each artist, something I, someone who likes to credit artists but sucks at recognizing their styles, appreciates.
-
003 - Beast
Frontrunner for "Best Beast Trading Card."
In addition to adopting the thicker cardstock, glossy finishes & foil embellishments of Marvel Masterpieces, all the cards in this set are fully painted.
-
002 - Rogue
In lieu of the classic bar graph stats, this set adopts a "Mutant Power Profile" featuring a partial wireframe (SO hot at the time) recreation of the cardfront image w/notes detailing the powers.
-
001 - Cyclops
This set immediately corrects a wrong from previous sets by starting off with the #1 X-Man. 😀
