  1. 145 - Wolverine vs. Cable

Commemorating the time Wolverine showed up in New Mutants & fought Cable but I just remember for when Dragoness makes out with Cannoball.

  3. 144 - Wolverine vs. Hellfire Club

Commemorating the battle which more or less put Wolverine on the map (give or take a White Queen)! Does a good job of not feeling overcrowded and still action-packed.

  5. 142 - Wolverine vs. Silver Samurai

I wouldn't have expected it, but Silver Samurai against a gray/white backdrop actually pops a little.

  8. 130 - Goblin Queen

Not the best depiction of Maddie, but not terrible. I don't recall her being "officially" more powerful than Jean, though. I guess maybe on the grounds she was telepathic at a time Jean wasn't?

  11. Fleer Ultra X-Men Series 1 Team Triptychs!

Which one are you joining up with?

Art by Tristan Schane, Jim Steranko, Joe Phillips & Dan Brereton.

    #TradingCardADay #Xmen #FUXM1 #XmenGold #XMenBlue #XFactor #XForce

  12. Speaking of Steranko, here's the X-Men Blue full triptych!

This was a little tricky to line up; there's more carry over elements across the image. Some cropping (and the border I added) are doing some heavy lifting.

  13. 114 - X-Men: Blue Team Part 3

Not sure why Rogue's butt dimple is so front & center, but here we are.

I like the cardback calling out the Blue Team as the sneakier hand-to-hand team, which is def how I thought of them.

    #TradingCardADay #XMen #FUXM1 #JimSteranko #Teams #XMenBlue

  14. 112 - X-Men: Blue Team Part 2

For whatever reason, it feels like we didn't get Beast and Gambit paired up much during the Blue/Gold Era.

Love the little twirling motion of the card in Gambit's hand.

    #TradingCardADay #XMen #FUXM1 #JimSteranko #Teams #XMenBlue

  15. 112 - X-Men: Blue Team Part 1

Continuing this set's efforts to convince us Sabretooth was ever an active member (this card hits differently given how his "X-Men prisoner" arc ends.

But not gonna argue w/more Steranko!

  16. 058 - Juggernaut

Not the most dynamic of Juggernaut cards, but there's still a good sense of movement and a pleasant "solidness" to the figure that works well.

  19. 043 - Weapon X (Wolverine)

For the first time since the first Marvel Universe set, Wolverine gets more than one dedicated card.

    #TradingCardADay #FUXM1 #XMen #XMenBlue #Wolverine #KentWilliams

  20. 015 - Sabretooth

Fantastic card. Love the "shredding" effect and just "Claws" as a power.

That said, feels like the bio should offer some context as to why he's listed as as an X-Man (esp. since that's not quite true).

    #TradingCardADay #FUXM1 #XMen #XMenBlue #DaveDorman

  21. 008 - Revanche

Nothing says "1994 X-Men" quite like this capture of the small sliver of time in which Kwannon-in-Betsy's-body was a de facto member of the team using a French (for some reason) codename.

    #TradingCardADay #FUXM1 #XMen #XMenBlue #DanBrereton

  22. 007 - Psylocke

Bill Sienkiewicz with his first card of the set. Sadly, it's not the greatest Psylocke card.

    #TradingCardADay #FUXM1 #XMen #XMenBlue #BillSienkiewicz

  23. 006 - Wolverine

The way his bio is vague about the loss of adamantium makes me assume it was written before "Fatal Attractions" and makes me wonder if the writer even knew the details of the story beyond "radical changes."

  26. 005 - Jubilee

Great card, though I don't love the way it almost seems like she's missing her right arm.

    #TradingCardADay #FUXM1 #XMen #XMenBlue #BrianStelfreeze

  27. 004 - Gambit

Gambit looks like he's nailing a power chord in the middle of an arena show.

This set also credits each artist, something I, someone who likes to credit artists but sucks at recognizing their styles, appreciates.

    #TradingCardADay #FUXM1 #XMen #XMenBlue #JohnEstes

  28. 003 - Beast

Frontrunner for "Best Beast Trading Card."

In addition to adopting the thicker cardstock, glossy finishes & foil embellishments of Marvel Masterpieces, all the cards in this set are fully painted.

    #TradingCardADay #FUXM1 #XMen #XMenBlue #DanBrereton

  29. 002 - Rogue

In lieu of the classic bar graph stats, this set adopts a "Mutant Power Profile" featuring a partial wireframe (SO hot at the time) recreation of the cardfront image w/notes detailing the powers.

    #TradingCardADay #FUXM1 #XMen #XMenBlue #JoePhillips

  30. 001 - Cyclops

This set immediately corrects a wrong from previous sets by starting off with the #1 X-Man. 😀

    #TradingCardADay #FUXM1 #XMen #XMenBlue #RayLago

  31. 020 - Nocture

Another rare instance of a character who appeared prior to the annual - in this case, Angela Cairn's transformation into Nocturne counts as the "new character."

  32. Marvel Masterpieces Series 2 !

  35. 001 - Annex

Similar to DC's "Bloodlines" all Marvel Annuals in 1993 introduced a new character & came w/a trading card of that character.

Some w/more staying power than others.

  36. 088 - Terrax

Fabry does Terrax justice, but the awkward framing of the card (cutting off the top of his weapon) makes it look like Terrax is about to axe himself in the head.

  39. 047 - Annihilus

    Ah! Space Dracula!

I have to assume we eventually learned the origin of the ship from which he crafted his control rod, and it was like a

Celestial or Kree ship or something, right?

  42. 021 - Doctor Doom

I'm a sucker for the "zoomed in closeup" trading card shot, but something about Doom's nose here throws the whole thing off. It seems disproportionately small.

  46. Card 044: Psylocke

Apparently they needed to make room on the upcoming X-Men page so Psylocke got punted to here on the grounds of her relationship with Captain Britain.

"Genetically altered by ninjas" is this card's version of Havok's "amnesia."

    #TradingCardADay #MU4 #XMen #XMenBlue #Psylocke

  47. Card 085: X-Men Blue

The placement of the signature box always makes me think Gambit has one of those little fancy waiter towels draped over his arm.

Wolverine smoking on the team card seems mildly surprising, even in '93.

    #TradingCardADay #XM2 #XMen #XMenBlue

  48. Card 063: Nick Fury

    After Dirty Harry.

Probably my fav Nick Fury card yet. Given that his most visually interesting aspects (eyepatch, gray temples, cigar) are all on his face, doing a closeup makes a lot of sense.
