The Fründenhütte is situated on top of the rock Mittelchnubel (2561m) underneath the Fründehorn (3368m).

The first picture picture shows the Blüemlisalphorn (with 3660m highest around the Oeschinensee), the Oeschinenhorn (3486m) and the Fründehorn. On the bottom right you can see the hut.

The normal route to the hut is not possible anymore, because of rock slide risks of the Spitze Stei (see second picture and previous post https://mountains.social/@bergmeister/109847838061374050). During my hike last Wednesday, I regularly heard boulders come down.

Therefore the alternative route via the Fründeschnuer was made more secure (3rd picture). This small pathway through the steep wall was pretty risky. In wet/moist conditions, it was very discouraged. As there was no other way of getting to the Fründenhütte, there are now steel cables, making it more of a via ferrata type of route.
