  2. Ambitious lawyer walks a tightrope between breaking free of and fitting in the patriarchal order to get ahead and keep her sanity in Female Perversions (Susan Streitfeld, 1996). Incredibly concise and lush cinematic treatise on womanhood. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  3. Imagine living in a functioning constitutional state, but men come into your house to take your husband away because of "terrorism". I'm Still Here (Walter Salles, 2025) is as much about what happened then as it is about what's happening right now. Haunting. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  4. Two nurses live together, one longing for her husband in Germany, the other enjoying her secret affair with a Muslim in All We Imagine as Light (Payal Kapadia, 2024). Soft and melancholic, dreamy and sweet, deeply humanistic gem of a film. #FrontaalNaaktFilm #FemaleDirectors

  5. Girl joins online horror challenge supposed to induce transformations, stalked by an older guy who worries about her in We're All Going To The World's Fair (Jane Schoenbrun, 2021). Eerily dreamish but not as good as Schoenbrun's I Saw The TV Glow. #HalloweenMovies #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  6. Overworked, exploited and underpaid employee of video production company sees her work dismantled by corporate interests and blows off steam by spouting foulmouthed comments on Instagram as a parody on Andrew Tate in Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World (Radu Jude, 2023). Almost 3 hour long, radically structured Romanian movie bored me but I can't get it out of my head because I totally identify with the main character. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  7. Frat boy with messiah complex goes ISIS against his own colonial empire in Dune Part Two (Denis Villeneuve, 2024). Visually stunning and quite thrilling war epic borrows from Laila Essaydi, Katsuhiro Otomo and Moebius, to name a few. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  8. What appears to be large meteorites at first starts to look more and more like a alien invasion in Without Warning (Robert Iscove, 1994). Television film looking like a live news event caused a nation-wide scare. It's pretty, pretty, pretty good. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  9. BBC-team investigates haunted house live on TV at Halloween Night in Ghost Watch (Lesley Manning, 1992). This looks so real it caused a nation-wide panic and an avalanche of criticism from the media. It's really, really scary. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  10. Women are punished for their sins in the most cruel ways in Shogun's Joy of Torture (Teruo Ishii, 1968). Weird mix of torture porn and morality play to serve the perverted male gaze is actually a very good film. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  11. Castle lord and his female chef spend an entire film drowning dead animals and vegetables in cream, butter, milk and fat in La Passion de Dodin Bouffant (Trần Anh Hùng). Beautiful but joyless, sanctifies food and takes itself far too seriously. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  12. Chinese dishwasher becomes the star of the Piccadilly club and the owner's new lover, but not to everyone's pleasure in Piccadilly (Ewald André Dupont, 1929). Anna May Wong is electrifying. Watch this without the horrible modern musical score. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  13. Scientist transplants baby's brain into her dead mother's skull and creates a mix of Frankenstein's monster, Barbie and Kaspar Hauser in Poor Things (Yorgos Lanthimos, 2023). Emma Stone is brilliant and has the best lines in this funny movie. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  14. Ghost of a courtesan who committed double suicide with her lover in the 30's turns up in 80's Hong Kong to search him, since he didn't show up in the afterlife in Rouge (Stanley Kwan, 1987). Crushing romantic tragedy, multilayered, beautifully filmed. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  15. Young angry woman swings between desire and self-destruction in Summer Storm (Ko Nakahira, 1956). Mie Kitahara at her darkest in provocative hodge-podge of post-war angst and anger. There is so much in this I could write an essay. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  16. Fresh out of prison, a mother snatches her son away from his foster parents in A Thousand and One (A.V. Rockwell, 2023). Compassionate and touching social realism, with vibrant cinematography and a jazzy score. Very good. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  17. Whistle-blower Reality Winner is questioned by FBI-agents about leaking proof of Russian interference in the 2016 US elections in Reality (Tina Satter, 2023). Breath-taking and intense masterpiece, Sidney Sweeney is amazing. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  18. Call center employee isolates herself from the world with her headphones, earbuds and smart-phone, spying on her own father through her phone in Aloners (Hong Sung-eun, 2021). This is so fucking good, I want more of it. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  19. The case of a teacher getting physical with a bullying schoolboy turns out to be much more complicated than it seemed in Monster (Hirokazu Kore-eda, 2023). Breath-taking actors and crafty direction make this a moving masterpiece. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  20. Right after the end of WWII, Japan finds out it’s better to live for a good cause than to die for a bad one in Godzilla Minus One (Takashi Yamazaki, 2023). Excellent disaster movie with amazing FX and a warm, humanistic heart. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  21. The life of a woman in Mississippi told in non-chronological, slow, dreamy sequences brimming with sensuality in All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt (Raven Jackson, 2023). Gorgeous to look at, amazing sound design. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  22. Woman stands trial for the death of her husband. Being not overly sympathetic and also German, her chances are not great in Anatomie d'une Chute (Justine Triet, 2023). Clever and intelligent about the enigmas that humans are. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  23. Woman steals from gangsters and takes refuge in a haunted flat building with the gangsters on her heels in Venus (Jaume Balagueró, 2022). Brilliant build-up, cinematography and everything. Great actors, very thrilling. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  24. Spanish convent is cursed because of what happened in the Civil War in Hermana Muerte (Paco Plaza, 2023). Very impressive horror could easily have been a silent movie by C. T. Dreyer. A wonder of design and cinematography. On Netflix. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

#FrontaalNaaktFilm

  26. Eight year old transgender girl comes to terms with who she is with the help of an old woman and her bees in 20,000 Species of Bees (Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren, 2023). Beautiful and sensitive, with a smashing performance by the main actor, Sofía Otero. #FrontaalNaaktFilm

  27. Santa Claus is preparing for Christmas but a devil from hell tries to ruin it for him in Santa Claus (René Cardona, 1959). Mexican morality tale teaches children to accept the fact that the poor have nothing and the rich everything. #FrontaalNaaktFilm #ChristmasMovie

  28. Rice-sniffing hitman kills innocent bystander and becomes himself the target of the mysterious syndicate he works for in Branded to Kill (Seijun Suzuki, 1967). Absurd, fetishist and incoherent and yet a classic. #FrontaalNaaktFilm #Noirvember

  29. Fresh out of jail, a yakuza, discovering his sacrifices are worthless, becomes obsessed with a young gambling woman he wants to save in Pale Flower (Masahiro Shinoda, 1964). One of my favorite films, perhaps my favorite. Gorgeous, profound. #FrontaalNaaktFilm #Noirvember

  30. Killer keeps out of the police's hands for ten years until his one good deed becomes his undoing in Fugitive From the Past (Tomu Uchida, 1965). Very compelling and multilayered kaleidoscopic psychological crime drama. #FrontaalNaaktFilm #Noirvember
