The Toronto Fringe has been forced to make so many cuts this year. It looks theoretically possible for one person (with tight scheduling and a lot of running) to be able to see every single show in the 2024 Fringe.
That hasn’t happened in years. I don’t think it’s ever happened since I started going to the Fringe here. This is a scary sign of what’s to come for anyone who cares about the arts today. (Or about having really good American television shows ten years from now. The Fringe is an incubator for the decade-long overnight successes of tomorrow.) -
One of my favourite times of year as a theatrical technician is #Fringe festivals. #FringeTO here in #Toronto is a special, joyful sort of chaos that always leaves me feeling like I am really, really, really good at my job... if only because so many of the companies are wildly inexperienced & thoroughly impressed by even the simplest of programming-wizardry. I've made some lifelong friends doing Fringe shows over the years, and seen some really interesting experimental work. So if you happen to live somewhere that a #FringeFest happens, I can't recommend them highly enough. Cheap tickets and fun shows, always.
