In honor of Mexican Independence Day, I’d like to introduce you to Frida Kahlo. Her work and life are captivating.

Frida was a painter and an activist, whose presence was nearly unknown to the world. She almost died of Polio at the age of 6, then as an adult she was in a horrible auto accident.

The latter effectively ended her aspiring medical career and was a catalyst for her painting career. Which she began during a year-long recovery.

Her art, which the world almost didn’t have, is an expression of her activism. Her focus being inclusivity, culture, and indigenous rebellion against colonialism.

My favorite quote from her:

“I paint self-portraits because I am so often alone, because I am the person I know best.”

i chose to honour #FridaKahlo when i came out as trans masc non-binary & i wear their name with #pride.
i only came out 7 yrs ago & i vowed to always be openly, unapologetically, be my self as i went on a journey of discovery to find out who i want to be & how i want to live my life after 45 yrs of living other people's life in survival mode.
it's been a rollercoaster ride on the #NarcissisticRoundabout for the most part, but i don't regret anything bc i learned my lessons & for the first time ever i feel in some sense liberated, for being alone & knowing truth.
i am grateful to have the opportunity to truly getting to know my self & learning to 🖤 & respect my self.

yes, i am lonely sometimes, & sad that despite my efforts i am still socially deprived, but i understand why & humbly take my many blessings.

i relate to frida very much. for as far as i know what they was like, which is very limited.
